About this deal

Balanced audio is great for pro use with long cables and electrically hostile environments. But it’s generally more of a liability than an asset in home audio gear. All else being equal, balanced stages usually have higher overall noise and distortion than their unbalanced counterparts. Headphone drivers don’t magically somehow work better when driven by a balanced source.” – NwAvGuy Balanced Connections Are More Powerful and Faster

4.4 mm balanced output Seriously, how do I properly use the 4.4 mm balanced output

Fed up of not being able to use your beloved 3.5mm single-ended headphones with devices sporting a 4.4mm Balanced output? Today we announced four new products - new Android based portable player, new flagship earphones and two very interesting Bluetooth adapters. It also has intrinsic shielding provided by minZ™ helix construction. They protect the cable from RFI and EMI noise and provide the cleanest transfer medium possible. The cable construction is a custom helix minZ™ design, minimised both in capacitance and inductance. It also has intrinsic shielding provided by the minZ™ helix construction. The design protects the cable from RFI and EMI noise and provides the cleanest transfer medium possible. In truth, a well designed single-ended amplifier featuring unbalanced connections is capable of truly excellent audio performance. Certainly, it can be superior to a poorly implemented balanced design. The inverse is also true. Nothing is actually wrong with 2.5mm except that Sony had favored balanced 3.5mm (ZX2 and Plenue S => dying breed), which wasn't popular enough versus 2.5mm. Unbalanced connections derive their name from the relative impedance to ground of the two connections in each channel: hot or positive ‘+’ and ground or negative ‘-’. Because the impedance to ground differs, we call the connection unbalanced. I thought, if I just buy something like a balanced 3.5 to 4.4mm cable, problem solved right ? Nope. For some reason, Denon themselves said in a Q&A, that we should NOT use a balanced cable with MM400, because it “may damage the coils”. Now I have a few questions. Some manufacturers adopt the ‘more is better’ approach and actually use dual 3-pin XLR connections between a balanced headphone and the amplifier. One for each Left and Right channel (the same as is done with line-level balanced interconnects). The Cayin iHA-6 headphone amplifier featuring low and high impedance ¼” single-ended, dual 3-pin XLR balanced and 4-pin XLR balanced headphone outputs from Cayin . A balanced connection has two signal phases per channel. Each phase has an equal impedance relative to ground, hence the name balanced. The advantage of balanced connections over unbalanced connections is common-mode noise rejection. You will surely be spoiled for choices if you get such quality drivers and sublime tuning at rediculously cheap prices. The Simgot EM6L is All amplifiers follow one of two basic circuit structures related to how they treat signals and grounds: single-ended or differential. Not too sure about technical SQ differences, but 2.5mm IMO is too thin/fragile. The 4.4mm standard just has a great feel of rigidity/durability to it, and the bigger surface area should lead to more reliable connection with a greater surface area. Fully balanced internal circuitry has been promoted as yielding 3 dB better dynamic range, though at increased cost over single-ended designs.” – Wikipedia Unbalanced Connections

These currents can introduce undesirable audible hum or other interference in unbalanced connections. In addition, the shared ground between unbalanced channels is blamed for crosstalk. Crosstalk is essentially unwanted signal leakage (or coupling) between audio channels. While crosstalk is one of the basic audio measurements, be aware that it seldom causes audible issues in modern equipment. UA3 joins our highly popular line of UA models and it marks an important point for Shanling, as it will be our first model using a brand-new DAC from the relaunched line of AKM DACs. Since the very first iPHONO launched in 2012, we have used our own in-house ‘Subsonic Filter’. It made it into the iPHONO2 and the iPHONO3 and now, the ZEN Phono which is the very first time this filter is seen in such an affordable price level. It seems that a lot of people think that which will become industry standard will largely due to the competition of Astell&Kern and Sony, champions of both standards. Right now in the market, it appears to me that 2.5 is used much more frequently than 4.4, as 2.5 is used in Onkyo, Hiby, Fiio, and many other popular DAPs brand other than AK. It is important to be able to recognize an unbalanced or balanced headphone cable and connector. A balanced cable can be used in an unbalanced source with the proper adapter. However, attempting to use an unbalanced cable with a balanced source is *usually* not possible, and will likely damage the source. A notable exception is detailed below.

iFi Cable Series 4.4mm to 4.4mm Balanced Male to Male

Source is PC --> iFi Zen DAC V2 balanced Amp/DAC --> 1. unbalanced 3.5mm output --> unbalanced headphones I bought this cable after my HiFiman Sundara headphone cable failed in one ear, it was sad how cheap the original cable was, but these are great, much more pliable, softer, and easier to work with while gaming or working.Second, if I add a 3.5 to 4.4mm “balanced adaptor” at the end of the 3.5 to 3.5mm unbalanced cable ( the OG cable ), can I get the full performance of the balanced output ? ( ALSO, will it “damage the coils” ? ) I have been told that a 4 pole connector cannot match up to the 6 connectors in the dual XLR’S. Is that logical? Or true? First, ( assuming I have an unbalanced 3.5 to 4.4 cable ) can I get the full performance of the balanced output if I plug in an unbalanced headphone cable ?
