I wish the author had spent more time on descriptions and developing the plot than telling me he wasn't going to tell me something. Most of the exciting things that happen in the story are when Cass and Max-Ernest are at The Midnight Sun. Just two guys who live together since a long time ago, bicker amongst themselves even though they clearly care a lot for each other and have a substitute daughter and granddaughter and substitute grandson, in the fourth book together.His parents went through their version of a "divorce" shortly after his birth because they couldn't decide whether to name him Max or Ernest. The Appendices at the end of each book were cool too, as they usually contained activities, games, and some information.

In You Have to Stop This, the final book of the series, the disclaimer reads "The characters and events portrayed in this book are fictitious. Two adventurers and the magician are investigating a lot of things but what makes this worth the read is the spectacular writing style!

Still, there is a lot of talk of "escaping death," and one character almost comes to an end in a gruesome way.
