About this deal

At school, she is labelled as an ‘SB’ (Sexy Bunny) by her peers, though Violet thinks she’s a Super-super-super SB. But there are some very serious issues of manipulation and control that went totally unaddressed and made me extremely uncomfortable. Despite adoring Will, she even once refused to spend a day with him and instead, went to Jasmine's house. Violet is a fan of Casper Dream (yeah, totally not a pseudonym)'s fairy books, which she is embarrassed by because she thinks she is too old for them (she's thirteen).

One day, Violet's father said that they were to go to their Gran's house to wish her a happy birthday but Will refused because of how she had charmlessly told him about his being adopted. Will is also a bit like a mini-Loki, if Loki were a teenager, and human, and his father was a policeman, instead of a God. Fantasy and complex reality intertwine like a dewy, silky spiderweb in a mist, and not in a way that Violet expects or likes. Will, likewise, has a complexity that I love finding in any book - and is all too rare sometimes in kids' books. At least in my opinion Midnight should be marked as a young-adult one, as it is rather dark, eerie and even spooky at times (or all the time in between the lines).Wilson's characters are no doubt agonisingly created, but seem effortlessly real and engaging--no wonder they've been adored by over 10-million readers since she first began writing for taunted teens and younger readers. Violet is a dreamy girl who is described as having long, thick hair and being small and skinny for her age.

ukNick Sharratt (Illustrator) Nick Sharratt has written and illustrated many books for children including Shark in the Park, You Choose and Pants. But Violet can't keep Jasmine away from her house forever and when Will and Jasmine get together and apparently exclude Violet--she can think of only one person who can help her. Description of the book: Violet has always been in the shadow of her mesmerising, controlling brother Will, and when a shocking secret about Will’s past is revealed, things get even worse.I'm usually pretty good at guessing endings, and all that was coming to me is 'she's going to be brutally murdered by her own brother, WHY CANT HER FAMILY SEE THIS?

Synopsis: A wonderful tale of family and fairies from the phenomenally successful Jacqueline Wilson. Jacqueline Wilson has written literally dozens of books, and if you aren't already a fan you very soon will be. Jacqueline has won the prestigious Smarties Prize and the Children's Book Award for DOUBLE ACT, which was also highly commended for the Carnegie Medal. I thought it was clever how subtly the author showed bitter realities of the world which won’t affect younger readers but older readers will see it for what it is. The arrival of Jasmine, a new girl at school who immediately befriends Violet, seems like it might change Violet’s life for the better and allow her to break free of Will’s spell.Their marriage is clearly falling apart, and Violet does compare her mother being a spineless doormat to her authoritative father to her own toxic relationship with her brother, but the parents remain together at the end. This is a wonderful, wonderful book, absolutely enchanting, and a must-read for anyone who's ever been weird, lonely, and/or fascinated by the beautiful butterflies pinned to the corkboard of life. THE ILLUSTRATED MUM was chosen as British Children's Book of the Year in 1999 and was winner of the Guardian Children's Fiction Award 2000.
