About this deal

The Bowflex weights are easy to use, too. Dials on either end of each dumbbell are labelled with the 15 weight options – we tested the UK version, so these were 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 14, 16, 18, 20, 23 and 24kg. While we were impressed by the Bowflex SelectTech 552's performance and ease of use during our tests, we admit they aren’t much to look at. The plastic finish on the plates and the chunky rubber handle give it a cheaper feel than its metal competitors The BowflexSelectTech 552 adjustable dumbbell has a weight range of 5-52.5lb (Image credit: Future) Set up and ease of use The benefits outweigh the negatives here, though, and if you are thinking about upgrading or kitting out your home gym, definitely consider the Bowflex SelectTech 840 kettlebell, especially if you are in the US, where it can bought cheaper on average. The free Three Dimensional Trainer (3DT) App offers pre-loaded workouts and over 70 step-by-step coaching videos for optimum performance during every training session. Even for a relatively tall person like I am, the Bowflex SelectTech 840 kettlebell sometimes felt bulky and in the way, especially when doings kettlebell abs exercises. Not the end of the world, but if the plastic shell was a bit more compact, that would most certainly help to elevate user experience.

The Bowflex SelectTech 552s are a neat bit of kit, with their clever, compact design offering the widest selection of different weights (15) of any adjustable dumbbell we tested. This makes the fact they measure just 15.8in by 8in all the more impressive. It is a very good system and the incremental weight plates are perfect for those looking to build muscle mass with the gradual increase of load over time. After all, 41kg should be plenty for those looking to add serious bulk. Talking about the cradle: it’s probably the least impressive part of the Bowflex SelectTech 2080. It’s a hollow, cheap looking plastic that’s admittedly not used for much but it does hinder the overall quality perception of the otherwise fabulous barbell. There is also the issue of how the cradles sit at the end of the frame. To inspire your training, the dumbbell comes with a free Bowflex® SelectTech® workout DVD - "Secrets of the 4 Step Rep". This features over 30 exercises and 80 variations to help you to maximise your workout. Featuring durable molding around the metal plates, the dumbbells are not only hard-wearing, but provide a smooth lift off. Removing the clanging of metal, you can enjoy more peaceful training allowing you to focus on your training goals. The new Bowflex SelectTech App is a great training tool which supports both iOS & Android users for the 2-24 KG (552) and 4-41Kg (1090) Bowflex SelectTech Dumbbells. Simply select which Dumbbell you have and the App will customise your experience (manual input only). If you decide to upgrade from the 2-24 KG (552) to the 5-60 KG (560)*, the App can seamlessly switch modes to support the new Dumbbell (*560 not yet available for international markets). Available in the App Store. The weight plates in the Bowflex SelectTech 840 kettlebell do rattle a bit when swung around, not enough to cause alarm, but since the bottom of the bell is open, it might make some people uneasy to perform kettlebell swings in front of their new 8k TVs. However, these design choices fill practical purposes. The plastic plates are quieter than rattling metal ones, and the rubber handles feel comfortable while offering excellent grip. Features and functionality

Featuring durable molding around the metal plates, the dumbbell is both hard-wearing and delivers a smooth lift off. No more clanging of metal!I was genuinely surprised how versatile the Bowflex SelectTech 2080 Barbell was when I first started using it. Originally, I was a bit concerned about the overall weight the barbell can handle and thought that for all the exercises I would use the barbell for, such as deadlifts and bench press, the Bowflex 2080 just wouldn’t provide enough resistance. You can change the weight of the BowflexSelectTech 552 adjustable dumbbell using dials on either end of the weights (Image credit: Future) Design
