Unfortunately, as much as we’d like it to be true, Yahoo!’s story is correct in pointing out Freddonomics’ flaws. The spiral chocolate bar - which took its name from the spiral like chocolate shape inside - was first launched in the north east of England by Cadbury in the 1980s. After proving to be exceptionally popular it was rolled out across the UK and became a firm favourite among chocolate fans. It is not the first time that food has been used for such purposes. The Big Mac Index is a way to compare the cost of living by comparing the price of a hamburger in different countries. The idea is that if a Big Mac costs the same in two countries, then the cost of living in those countries is also the same. It is not a perfect way to compare the cost of living, say economists, but instead it is a simple and easy-to-understand way to get a general idea. Boult, Adam (8 July 2016). "This is how much a Freddo is set to cost by 2030". The Daily Telegraph.

Obviously, for most of us, our quality of life stems from how many Freddos we can afford in a typical day, so I looked at how many Freddos you can buy in 2000 based on average earnings, compared with how many we can buy today based on average earnings. Sharon Iddir is not alone in reaching for the Freddo Index. Across the UK, nurses, teachers and university lecturers have all gone on strike this year. So have railway workers, firefighters, journalists, civil servants Anyone working in a government department. The civil service has long-standing traditions and strict codes of conduct that can make it a law unto itself., doctors and ambulance drivers. All of them are citing a "real-terms pay cut" as the reason. Instead, we're left with a 60p bill (87p come 2030) on a bar that's also notoriously shrunk over the years. Weight of a Mars Bar A cookie set by YouTube to measure bandwidth that determines whether the user gets the new or old player interface. Freddo Frogs became part of the Cadbury product range in 1967, when MacRobertson's was sold to Cadbury. In Australia, Freddo Frogs are manufactured in Ringwood, Victoria and Claremont, Tasmania. Since the success of Freddo, an alternative chocolate named Caramello Koala (formerly Caramello Bear), also made by Cadbury, has been created. Caramello Koala is the only flavour in which the chocolate is not shaped like "Freddo".

Simple exercises like these are brilliant at distilling abstract concepts but they cannot substitute for years of work on complex problems. Based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and CPIH (including housing costs) used for official inflation measurements, if a Freddo cost 10 pence in 1999 and the price rose in line with inflation then it would have cost Although this is not an exact science - well, exact economics - by any stretch of the imagination, the price of a Big Mac is apparently a fantastic indicator of the rate of inflation across the UK over the last 15 years. Once upon a time, the cinema used to be something you didn't have to plan an entire weekend's budget around - with adult prices not too long ago sitting just below a fiver, kids were welcomed with something even cheaper. Yet critics point out that these methods are far from accurate. Official calculations of inflation look at the values of average shopping baskets using hundreds of items - not just Big Macs or sweets.Dream was a white chocolate bar made by Cadbury that was similar to Nestle's Milkybar. No longer manufactured in the UK you can still buy the Cadbury white chocolate bar in parts of Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. However at Christmas, a white chocolate advent calendar from Cadbury is often available to buy in England with the chunks behind the doors closely resembling the now outdated Dream. The Cabana is another bar with its own group appealing for its return On the whole though, it's been remarkably close to the appropriate figure - 1p difference this year, in fact - and is a great example of how big business doesn't have to rip us off for our fast-food staples and nostalgic endeavours.
