About this deal

Compared to both the Castelli and Gore gloves in this section, the Sportful offering isn’t quite as warm. On the interior you’ll find Primaloft Silver insulation which is still impressively warm but not quite the warmest out there. Unlike other gloves though, Sportful constructs the fleece interior in a way that it won’t pull out when your hand is wet. The downside of gloves made with leather is that they require regular maintenance. A waterproofing treatment such as Sno-Seal or Nikwax can significantly help maintain the waterproofing ability and general quality of a pair of leather ski gloves. But my tatty flat-barred town bike with old rim brakes definitely needs a lot more ooomf on the levers than one finger can provide, and it's at least a two-finger stopping machine, so having to brake with all four fingers of the GripGrab gloves felt very strange and having just a thumb wrapped round the bar certainly made control nervous. In the meantime my Tucano Urbano muffs and heated grips have been enough enough to make fully five finger gloves comfortable at least down to 0°F.” You need these insulated, rubberized pogies. They wrap on with Velcro, giving you access to the brake and shift levers, and their generous size leaves room inside for gloves or mitts in really grim conditions. Longer cuts on the tops make it easier to slip your hands in.

OK, so I’ve seen string tightening adjusters like that before on a few other motorcycle gloves but they always seem a bit strange and usually don’t work very well. Neoprene gloves work by holding water close to your skin and allowing it to work as insulation. The problem is that they don't work when the outside air is near freezing. The outside air overcomes your body's ability to warm the water and you have both wet and cold hands. You have to keep the outside air away from the neoprene and if you put them inside of a shell glove it solves everything. The shell will leak but the water that comes through will become a part of your insulation. You can remain warm and comfortable for hours with a pair of neoprene gloves inside a shell. What are the warmest winter cycling gloves? We've reviewed plenty of winter gloves on road.cc, but the lobster design is a little rarer, so there aren't many to compare these GripGrabs against.

The Nordic 2s are designed for arctic winter rides where the temperature hovers around zero, with added wind chill. As GripGrab is a Scandinavian company, you'd hope its designers have plenty of experience and know-how in making a glove that can cope with the most digit-numbing of conditions. But while GripGrab can certainly make a very warm glove, you may not find it perfect for cycling.

That would be the palm, with suede leather and double-stitched cow hide on the wear points at the grip and over the top of the thumb. The little gel pads help you from numb hands and the silicone prints offer easy braking and shifting of gears.

Polyester liner enhances warmth and repels water to keep you dry and comfortable in hostile conditions. The lining is listed as “100% Polyester”, which doesn’t tell me much, but the wind-breaking nylon outer shell and the three-finger design keeps my hands pretty toasty actually, although I’ve only worn them on the bike in temps down to about 4 degrees C (39 F).
