About this deal

The stainless steel exterior makes the Porlex Mini robust, but doesn’t that mean it weighs more than its competitors? If this is you then a hand coffee bean grinder may fit into your early morning routine like a glove. For years and years, I was used to the idea that, if I wanted a quality hand grinder, I had to go with something from Orphan Espresso and their huge and heavy Lido models. These burrs have less wobble than the old ones due to improved construction, and as a bonus, it’s way easier to adjust the grind now. The Mini is smaller than all other hand grinders on the market standing at 13 cm tall and less than 5 cm in diameter, making it smaller than a soft drink can.

In fact, I think you’ll have to consider the semi-professional electric flat burr grinders before you find something that can rival K-Max as a multipurpose grinder. This will allow you to evenly extract your coffee, eliminating the possibility of bitter or weak coffee. We make every attempt to ensure all deliveries arrive within the estimated time frames above however sometimes events occur that are out of our control. To use rice for cleaning your coffee grinder, simply pour a small amount of uncooked rice into the grinder and grind it as you would with coffee beans. Taking regular care of any coffee grinder will help its longevity, and the Porlex Mini is no different. I purchased my first manual burr coffee grinder when I was just dipping my toe into home coffee brewing and made a perfect entry-level coffee grinder for pour over coffee which suited me.

You don’t plan to travel with your grinder –If you don’t need your grinder to be easily portable, there are plenty of other options to suit your needs and aesthetic taste. If you can’t afford the 1Zpresso Jx or have small hands and want something lighter, go with the C2 instead. When you say “coffee mill” there’s a good chance that older people would think of this specific model. Timemore is a relatively new Chinese coffee company that makes products aimed at the manual brewing segment. If you need a larger capacity grinder, check out the Mini Mill’s big brother, the Porlex JP-30, which has a 30 g capacity. The burrset seems to feed and cut very well and efficiently, but by Timemore’s own words, it produces too many fines and varying particle sizes at the espresso end of the cutting scale. While the JP-30 isn’t quite as convenient as Mini for travelers, that extra 10g of capacity will save you precious minutes if you regularly brew more than two cups of coffee at a time.

For instance, I brewed a few batches relying on the 4:6 method and had very acceptable drawdown times and silt-free brew beds, so don’t think fines will be a big problem. The English of 1Zpresso’s sales material isn’t entirely up to Oxford standards, but don’t let that fool you. Of course, it depends on each model, but as long as they are made of materials such as strong plastic (like the Hario Mini) or steel (such as the Porlex), you don’t have much to worry about.

With a maximum of 20g of coffee at once, you can only get about 1-3 cups of coffee per grind, depending on your preferences. But weighing in a 2 lbs or just above 1 kilo, you’d have to be a hardcore coffee geek to bring it on a trip. Of course, because the Porlex Mini hand grinder is so compact, it has its limitations in the number of beans it can grind in one go. If you use the C2 daily, your brewing style will naturally become more attuned to the particular grind distribution, and you should be able to make brews that compare to more high-end grinders. or if you're also like me and enjoy coffee at home it's cracking for just having in the kitchen too, you can travel with it and you can not travel with it.

The whole idea of the Rok grinder is to make it easier to hand grind, but to me, it’s just ‘a new kind’ of difficulty. Plastic is also used for the lid cover and adjustment knob, but these places it doesn’t seem out of place in the same way. Let me tell you this quite frankly; when you first start your journey into the world of specialty coffee, you’ll hear a lot of superstition when it comes to grinders. The C2’s burrset is not one designed or patented by Timemore (though they do have several burrs they have designed and patented, and use in their higher end products). This grinder is particularly user-friendly, with 17 settings that make the tool as easy to use as possible.

The majority of hand coffee grinders are either constructed of stainless steel or plastic, they have only a few moving parts all of which are normally manufactured to be fairly robust.
