About this deal

Fleming, Mike (2011-11-21). "Chris Evans Replacing James Franco In 'The Iceman'". "Deadline.com". Retrieved 2011-11-21. When a man insults Richard Kuklinski's girlfriend during a game of pool, he follows the man to his car and murders him by slashing his throat. Kuklinski marries Deborah in 1964 and the couple have two daughters. Kuklinski presents himself to everyone as a normal and successful working man, but he has a dark, violent side that he hides. As a boy, he and his younger brother were the subject of brutal beatings from their immigrant Polish father, shaping the boys into emotionally disturbed, sadistic young men. His brother is serving a life sentence in prison for raping and murdering a 12-year old girl. I was bothered by the level emphasis put on Wim Hof. The "cult-like" approach is nothing more than lobbing for Wim Hof, and his seminars. However the book would have been better off as a leaflet. It's entirety can be summarised in a few sentences, which I'll do here to save you the effort:

Still, Stanley frequently had sex with Anna whether she wanted to or not. He considered himself quite the ladies' man and was often on Anna without notice or warning or any kind of foreplay: wham, bam, it was over. The 1st of this book's 3 prologues quotes Jiddu Krishnamurti who said that "the cessation of thought is the awakening of intelligence". This quotes tells you lots about Wim Hof's pretensions: so long as you don't think too hard about what he says, he'll sound legit. Wim has made it his mission to share what he’s learned with the rest of the world. And so he developed the Wim Hof Method: a combination of breathing, cold therapy and commitment that offers a range of benefits.Wim Hof is often presented as a freak of nature. If you’re flipping through the science channels, you might see a segment that shows him subjecting himself to extremely cold temperatures with no ill effects. This book is an attempt by Hof, and co-author Koen De Jong, to counter the proposition that he’s some sort of mutant (or—worse--that his demonstrations are cons) by offering a method by which anyone can achieve the same feats. It should be noted that long before Hof and YouTube came on the scene, there were people [notably Taoist and Tibetan Buddhist monks] performing similar acts. Very good book it keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout Very good book it keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout I am continuously searching for ways to expand my mind, body and spirit—Wim Hof and The Way of The Iceman have done just that! He shows us that human potential is limitless and we are ALL capable of anything we set our minds to.”‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

The writing in this book seems to me very basic in it’s approach and logic, however it gave me what I needed in terms of helping me to understand what the Wim Hof method was all about. Prior to reading the book I didn’t understand the reasons why you would want to do the breathing and the science behind the benefits of cold ice baths and showers. Following an undercover sting operation, Kuklinski is arrested in 1986. His wife and kids had never suspected him of being a killer. Kuklinski admits to having committed over 100 murders, both for personal reasons and for profit, in his 22-year career. After being sentenced to two life terms in prison, he never sees his wife and daughters again. As the movie ends, Kuklinski's only regret is hurting his family through the crimes he committed. In 2006, he dies in a prison hospital, from a rare inflammatory disease; the film's closing intertitles indicate that foul play was suspected in his death as he was scheduled to testify at the trial of a Gambino family underboss. This was not a good read. In fact, it was a terrible read. It’s pretty obvious the authors (Wim Hof and his protégé, Justin Rosales) are not writers.Having had a truly horrific childhood that did away with whatever humanity he had to start with, Richard was already a killer by the age of 13. Discovering a fearsome talent for murder he was already killing for sport by the time he was tapped to carry out contracts for various Mob families, and continued indulging in his hobby alongside his mob work leading to a truly terrifying trail of dead people behind him. The likes of Gacy and Bundy seriously have nothing on this guy. So when I found out the upcoming movie was based on a different book, I had to read it to know what to expect. Saying that I was very happy with the book and can not wait for the movie!
