About this deal

This is a mafia spin on Beauty and the Beast and I honestly loved how Lark handled it. I loved that there was an old dark musty mansion in this with a east wing and west wing, a huge library and a housekeeper who barely understands English. I found it charming and intense at the same time. I loved the whole "if you really love something you must let it go" nod to the original story. The amount of history research for all the rival mafias in Chicago and attention to detail was great. I loved all the dialogue in Polish between Miko and his guys. I loved that Miko felt atypical even for an anti-hero, his cunning intelligence was probably the most attractive thing about him. And the whole full body sleeve tattoos? It worked. 🔥 However, the two have to commit to keeping things professional. That’s partly to keep their own careers safe, but also because Holly is managing a campaign that is being threatened by a bomber. Meanwhile, the detective is noticing that there are similarities here to a case from the past that ended up burning him badly.

I don’t want to trap you,” I say to Riona. “I want to unleash you. I want to set you free. I want to show you what you really are . . . ” Anyways many things about him just didn’t sit well with me. The fact that he THOUGHT about undressing her while she was unconscious so she can be scared when she wakes up was already bad enough, but I’m happy he didn’t actually do it. And don't even get me started on the most eye-twitch-inducing "Psychology" 101 sex trope - a woman who is considered a "ballbuster" and in full control of her professional and personal life, who is a bit of a control freak, simply MUST enjoy being dominated in bed. I mean, like always, I get that it's a legitimate thing that happens but can we (and by we, I mean myself), JUST ONCE, have a female character who likes to be in control both in boardroom and the bedroom? Like, why is it that male characters can be described as "Mr. Big D Energy exercises control in all aspects of his life" but as soon as you have a female character who exercises control in her life, she simply MUST meet a guy who will make her "let go" and free her of her inhibitions and what-not. Oh and their love story happened so fast, one day they were captor and captive, and then suddenly he fell in love with her out of nowhere. I was like hold up, did we have a time skip I wasn't aware of? I guess my expectation here was that if you write a heroine who so wonderfully escapes the traditional frames of what is considered to be feminine, the next step is to have the courage to keep her that way and not have her "change for love" or whatever.

Description: “There Are No Saints” is the first book in the Sinners Duet. Reader be warned: this is a dark and steamy serial killer romance that will take you on a journey through the twisted mind of an artist on the brink of madness. Then a Russian character reinforces the stereotype that Slavic (in his case Russian) girls are whores because Petra was clearly not enough to convince us. I was looking forward to a immersing myself in a Hogwarts-inspired mafia school. I was expecting it to be somewhat ruthless, conniving.

The Griffins and the Gallos have been in a battle, to the death, to have the control of the mob underworld of Chicago for generations. Their legacy of violence and death has been a part of their culture for decades. There appears to be no resolution towards peace between the families. Their bitter rivalry reignites when Aida, the youngest and wildest Gallo sibling, crashes a party at the Griffin mansion, accidentally setting fire to the library. It read like a high school drama yet these damn kids are supposed to be getting prepared for a mafia world.Synopsis: “I’ll Protect Her… Whether She Likes It Or Not. Riona Griffin is gorgeous, intelligent, and iron-willed. My perfect woman, except she hates my guts. She thinks she doesn’t need anybody. But she needs me.
