I would say that the living space could easily get below freezing if you weren't in there for a couple of days, especially at night during a cold spell. One thing about the fancy inverter/chargers with AC pass through is that they wont turn on unless they "see" DC voltage. but the main thing is the heatpad be built out off flat traces, if you can feel the wire in the pad snaking back and fourth I don't think you want to be putting a ton of weight on that style.

My concern is by having a heating pad glued to the battery case, we would be impacting the heat transfer of the battery in high ambient conditions. I would personally put the batteries in a insulated container, then add a thin sheet of conductive material like sheet aluminum over the pad so that the heat it produces can warm up your entire battery bank. Note: Expion360 will be incorporating a thermal cutoff switch in their generation 2 VPR PowerMod batteries, which will be available in the spring of 2020.

Maybe I don't even need the heating pad after the plywood and foam insulation is added raising the batteries off the cold steel floor.

I have the smaller one in my underbody pack, and its been good down to 20F so far (1/2" XPS insulation, and 5 exterior sides).
