About this deal

Ten months later however, Rudolf opted for a new name for his brand, PUMA . The brand was officially registered as PUMA at the German Patent and Trademark office on October 1948, and then subsequently the company name was changed to “PUMA Schuhfabrik Rudolf Dassler”. The name was chosen as Rudolf wanted his products to embody the qualities of a puma: speed, strength, endurance and agility, The collection embodies form and function with one of PUMA's first icons, the PUMA King. The King re –Luxe has a new upper, which takes it's inspiration from a 1980's version of the soccer boot. Using a leather football as its reference, the new re luxe upper features a stitch and turn technique, which is highlighted in a wonderful aged Italian calf leather. The rubber outsole has been designed to reflect the original soccer tread and stud pattern by brushing the lazered anti-slip rubber sole to mimic a leather sole unit. Over the years, Puma has taken their models to the next level. In 1991 Puma designed what is called a disc system. The Puma did not have any laces, but a adjustable fit. In 1996 Puma released the “Cell” which it is said to be the first foam free midsole. From then on, Puma has incorporated them into new models. The sneaker, which is affectionally named after the Italian for “monster”, exceeded expectations to become one of the most unconventional trend pieces in the last few decades.

Fast forward to 1948 (28 years after founding their company) and the Dassler brothers have fallen out, deciding to go their separate ways in terms of business. While Adolf went on to found another world-class brand now known as none other than adidas , Rudolf took 14 employees with him and founded “Sportschuhfabrik Rudolf Dassler" (RUDA).To be exact, Puma was established in 1948, and the first shoe to release was the Atom a soccer shoe. Not long after, athletes started wearing Puma’s in key events. In 1952 runner Josef Barthel wore Puma while he won a Olympic Gold Medal in the 1500 m. In 1956, the formstripe was introduced and since then, has been a Puma trademark. By 1991 PUMA was already a global sensation, and the world stood still when it introduced Disc technology for the first time. As the first laceless sports shoe to hit the market, the PUMA Disc operated by using a system of internal wires that fastened or loosened the sneakers, doing away with the traditional concept of laces. During the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Heike Drechsler, Dieter Baumann and Linford Christie all took gold medals wearing PUMA Disc spikes. During the 70s and 80s, B-Boy culture was growing in New York and the PUMA Suede was the shoe of choice. As well as its stylish look, it was also a very functional choice. The sole of the shoe was flexible and yet sturdy, light and yet supportive. It was the perfect choice for breakdancers! Alongside their successes in sports, PUMA also had incredible success with the public. Their trainers were innovative, well-designed and came in a number of unique colourways which made them a favourite for everyday wear. Originally inspired by two sports shoes – a sprinting spike from 1968 and a surfing shoe from the 80s – the Mostro is well-known for its signature alternative Velcro closure system and non-slip dimpled sole with an overall style that “walks the line between sport and style”.

In the 1940s Adolph and Rudolf Dassler had a falling out, Rudolf went on to create Puma (while his brother Adolph went on to create Adidas). Even though Puma was a new company, Rudolf knew a lot about athletic sneakers. Before Rudolf and Adolph Dassler (brothers) went their own ways, they owned Gebruder-Dassler Schuhfabrik a footwear company.

ON A RUN

Brothers Rudolf and Adolf Dassler founded a company titled “Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik” (Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory) in their parents home in Herzogenaurach, Germany in 1919, setting out on a mission to create athletic shoes, long before the market was flooded with the options it is today. By the 1920s the brothers were able to open up their own factory nearby. Plenty of shoe factories existed within Herzogenaurach, however due to global uncertainty surrounding the second world war, many never made it past the early 20th century, whereas the Dassler brothers’ company began to thrive. The early 1970s saw the introduction and rise of many notable PUMA trainers. The PUMA Clyde became the PUMA Suede in the 1980s and would go on to become one of the most iconic sneakers in history thanks to its popularity within emerging cultural movements in New York.

The women's addition is equally as desirable, available in a fossil metallic and high gloss leather of racing green and red. The last shape has a slimmer silhouette and to give it an extra feminine shape this style has a hidden mid sole with a raised-in step.
