About this deal

But I had to take a solid point off for what felt to me like a - not sure how to describe it actually but I'm going to say - unconvincing ending.

His grumpy old science experiment "hyperspace" jumper is still in the middle and still quite a dull info-dump guy, but the paraplegic in her mechs, and even a bunch of the bad guys start to overshadow the book before we get to the metaphysical ending. And even if my expectations were for it to be something more surprising and exciting, it did provide a satisfying ending to the central mystery of the series (the nature of unspace and the mysterious masters of the architects).

Suffice it to say that it isn't as easy as all that because something that can control almost unimaginably powerful creatures like the Architects must be absolutely formidable. A late-comer to the worlds of science fiction, John Folk-Williams circled around it, first by blogging (primarily through Storied Mind) about inner struggles and the mind’s way of distorting reality. We follow this complex story through multiple points of view, and Tchaikovsky manages to humanize and keep us interested in even the worst characters who want to fight off most of humanity to keep alive their narrow circle of committed fascists and brutal warlords. And taking all three books in the 'Final Architecture'-trilogy together, this is one of the, if not the best modern space opara, with an imagination that is hard to find anywhere else in the genre, combining vivid action, engaging characters and awe-inducing ideas. However, just when this unnecessary distraction (unnecessary not as in the author added something to make the book bigger but unnecessary because aggravating and people should have been better) is over, the shit is hitting the fan.

I will say, like most good science fiction, Tchaikovsky explores the human condition here warts and all.Throughout this series I've enjoyed the characters and the plot but I didn't think this third book would exceed my expectations but I got to say Adrian not only stuck the landing but elevated the entire series with the final book. The Eye is surrounded by fragments of a vast spaceship which turns out to be its own unique design created by some unknown species. Not what I would have expected or even have hoped for, but that's what makes it all the more amazing.

I've read quite a bit of Tchaikovsky including Children of Time, Children of Ruin, Children of Memory, and 5 books of The Shadows of The Apt. After that, she thinks heavily about Idris, and she's there for all the big moments where Idris is finally believed by the scientists and Ints on the Eye, and she is the chapters VOICE during those moments.

Closing the covers of my hardcover edition and putting the book back on its shelf had me sigh contently. Publishers Weekly wrote a positive review for Eyes of the Void, stating that the author's "intelligent worldbuilding captures the essence of classic space opera". On the strength of this last book in The Final Architecture I think this is my favorite series of his and this is my favorite sci fi book of his that I've read.

Not all is at is seems at the surface, and eventually, an unholy alliance is formed, upsetting the balance of power. Human and inhuman interests wrestle to control Idris' discovery, as the galaxy erupts into a mutually destructive and self-defeating war. And then there’s the Final Architecture trilogy, which reaches a conclusion with Lords of Uncreation. Adrian Tchaikovsky’s Lords of Uncreation is the third and final volume of the Final Architecture series, including Shards of Earth and Eyes of the Void. The inter-personal exploration was as interesting as Idris going into Unspace even deeper to find the Lords of Uncreation.

Now with a diminished crew serving the whims of an alien gangster they manage to take up a central role in Idris’ final effort to stop the destruction of sentient life on settled planets. There are exciting action sequences, both cosmic and hand to hand (the set piece almost exactly halfway through the book is spectacular). Clarke award-winning author of Children of Time brings us the third and final novel in an extraordinary space opera trilogy about humanity on the brink of extinction, and how one man's discovery will save or destroy us all. Etwas langatmig fand ich die doch eher abstrakten Beschreibungen der ausgedehnten Reisen in den Unspace (oder wie wird der im deutschen genannt?
