About this deal

Zoe as a character was fleshed out enough to get a sense of her goals and motivations but I didn't really identify with her. Other characters were also fleshed out and I found some of the side characters interesting. Set in a world that has suffered from the Ice caps melting, we are taken on a journey that looks at what the world might be like if everywhere flooded. It reminded me of zombie apocalypse films where humanity either turns on each other or works together... This article needs additional citations for verification. Yes, I always loved myths and legends - I used to read and re-read two books from the library - one a big illustrated edition of Greek Myths and the other Old Peter's Russian Tales. I don't know why I was fascinated by these stories, but maybe simply because I find them to be more glamorous than contemporary stories... Update - I have completed converting the SMART Notebook files so there are now Powerpoint screens for each lesson included as requested. Hide replies

With both your publisher and author hat on, what advice can you give would-be children's authors in getting published? The language in the book is simple to read but very descriptive, using lots of metaphors and personification. It varies from book to book but it's not a chore as I love to do research. It's easier than actually writing the things! For Revolver, the research spanned about 16 months, of little trips here and there and lots and lots of reading!

Floodland has a powerful and emotive theme, handled with warmth and humanity. About This Edition ISBN:

I appreciate your kindness and I'm pleased to know that you have used a number of my schemes of work now, which I thank you for. Floodland is a great book and my class produced many great pieces of work from the planning which they really enjoyed; I hope that your own class also enjoy it. The main idea of the book which is global warming, gives the children a perspective about how the future would be if humans keep on neglecting the environmental issues. I enjoyed listening to the children's interesting discussions about how we can reduce the effects by changing our behavior. Floodland is an interesting story about a young girl called Zoe who lives on a deserted island, Norwich. Norwich is deserted because of high sea levels. What if the sea began to rise . . . and rise . . . until the land began to disappear? A brilliant futuristic fantasy by an acclaimed new writer. What if the sea began to rise . . . and rise . . . until the land began to disappear? A brilliant futuristic fantasy by an acclaimed new writer." The pacing was fast, choppy even at times and the narrative quite disjointed. the ending came with a large dose of skepticism on my part as it was unbelievable and unsatisfactory. The Raven Mysteries are full of humour and mad-cap action, which is quite different from your novels for older readers. Was this a conscious decision of yours when setting out to write this series?
