About this deal

Obviously the aforementioned Hamiathes’ Gift reveal in The Thief, but I’m also super interested in seeing how Gen’s fight with the Attolian guard plays out. Gen gets the blessings of his gods to steal the stone from a rapidly-flooding temple, but they are attacked by Attolians on their way back to Sounis, and the stone is lost. So used to being considered only as a valuable tool in his master’s employ, Kamet never considers that he as a person is important enough to risk all of this for. Our new narrator, in close-third for the majority of the novel, is a member of the Queen’s Guard, who starts the book by punching the king of Attolia.

The Magus of Sounis wants Gen to retrieve it from an underwater temple, since he has boasted that he "can steal anything. When he plans to follow through on his intentions to marry Eddis, however, Attolis reminds him that as his sovereign, he cannot allow Sounis to be beholden to both Attolia and Eddis. In exchange, the magus offers Gen fame and threatens him with a bounty on his head if he tries to escape. An extremely entertaining adventure story, woven throughout with magical elements that are wholly in keeping with the setting. Eddis: A small, rural country high in the mountains between Sounis and Attolia, also ruled by a queen.

The Queen’s Thief novels are rich with political machinations and intrigue, battles lost and won, dangerous journeys, divine intervention, power, passion, revenge, and deception. The magus says the river overflowed the banks just as Gen had predicted and that they would have drowned had they not moved camp. Mythology: Immakuk and Ennikar, as translated by Kamet: This riff on Gilgamesh and Enkidu forms the backbone of Kamet and Costis’ journey through the Mede empire. She too has been seeing visions of the Sacred Mountain erupting, and knows that this is the only way to convince all of her people to move out of Eddis.Megan Whalen Turner’s beloved and award-winning Queen’s Thief series began with the acclaimed novel The Thief. When a troop of the queen’s soldiers catch up, Gen leads the magus and Sophos across a hidden bridge into Eddis, then destroys the bridge so the soldiers can’t follow. You could go literal, with a voiceover keeping a running account of Gen’s thoughts throughout the adventure; but few movies or series aimed at younger audiences utilize voiceover in ways that actually augment the plot rather than just layering on a cheesy commentary.

They reunite with Ambiades, but on their way back to Sounis are attacked by a group of Attolian soldiers. Of course, the theft is discovered an hour later, and the group is pursued by mounted Attolian soldiers.Shy, sweet, and naive, Sophos seems to idolize Ambiades, though he is also fascinated by and shows kindness to Gen. It’s the ruthless, violent decision, one that Sophos hopes to avoid by opening the false bottom of the gun case to discover an alternate solution—but when he does, he discovers a second gun, this one engraved with “I make the king.
