About this deal

Like other self inflating mattresses, this one has foam that takes on air as soon as it’s unrolled. The Yawn Air by Sleep Origins makes an excellent choice if you want a more substantial inflatable bed with a luxurious style. The Yawn Air inflatable mattress has a headboard to make it look and feel more like a real bed that you and your house guests will enjoy sleeping in, even if it is for an extended period of time. I slept comfortably on this bed overnight and didn’t need to inflate it in the morning. A two-minute bounce from Bethany and William soon changed this, but overall I was impressed at how well it retained its firmness. There was the odd squeak when I turned from side to side, but I managed to dampen this with an extra blanket on the bed. Its firmness didn’t last through the first night however. As expected, I needed to top up in the morning. The instructions point out that like most PVC air beds, you will need to add air to the bed more frequently the first few times you use it as the fabric stretches to its natural shape. With two drawstring pulls on either side, the bag that this air bed comes with is possibly the most practical of all the storage bags in this test. It’s also one of the lightest to carry. The built-in pump can be used for up to five minutes at a time to inflate and deflate, and I found that the bed was nicely blown up with a bit of squish at around the 4.5 minute mark.

I may not have my priorities right, but the first thing I wanted to do when inflating the Intex was to give it a stroke. Its top layer of wonderfully smooth fabric feels good to touch. Team that with the vertical lines spanning the bed's length, and the Intex looks and feels very enticing to sleep on. To help make getting into and out of bed easier, even for the mobility impaired, this air mattress has an elevated height that stands 45cm tall. It also has a 250kg maximum weight limit making this a great bed for couples and heavier individuals. Most air beds will come with specific instructions on how to deflate your air bed, so read the manual carefully. ‘For a design with a built-in pump, you’ll need to plug in the air bed and turn the dial to the deflate position for no longer than the recommended time, which is usually under five minutes,’ says Jessica Alexander from the National Bed Federation. How do you store an air bed?Why not explore our range of all-in-one air beds which feature an air mattress, a pillow and a sleeping bag? You'll still need to make sure you've brought an air pump. Go for a foot pump or an ultra-efficient electric air pump, the choice is yours. And if you're looking for separate sleeping bags, then we’ve got a great variety of those too.

Intex air beds are simple and effective. They make a great transition air mattress and their low height means they will easily fit into a tent. This Intex air bed has inflated dimensions of 99cm x 1.91m x 25cm. Not all of these come with pumps though so make sure you have the right equipment before you buy. Best air beds at a glance The double air bed comes with a sleeping bag and pillows already attached so you don’t need to prepare any extra stuff - simply inflate and you’re ready to sleep. Most manufacturers advise that children under eight should not sleep on an air bed. Each design will also have a maximum weight capacity for the user. The Bestway Fortech design has a total weight capacity of 350kg (55 stone), for example. The Bestway Tritech air bed has an elevated weight limit of 300kg making it a great choice for larger and heavier individuals. It comes in a double size and has a low pillow incorporated into the design. This air mattress isn’t cheap but it’s one of the lightest around at just 560g - and it comes with a lifetime guarantee. Each Active Era Premium king size air bed features a built-in electric pump powered by mains as well as an additional manual valve option. They take three minutes to fully inflate using the built-in pump. 35 internal air coils have been incorporated into the design to increase support and it stands 48 centimetres tall. The Touchxel seemed a little noisier than the average air bed I tested, but this may be down to the fact that at the time of inflation it was late and I was tired. It's constructed with 42 air coils for comfort, but I found the grooves on the top layer a little less inviting than some of the more streamlined designs. These grooves do provide grip, however, and kept me securely in place during the night.
