But transmitting little beyond that. Matrix / Runout (Side O runout): 19439981981-O 243282E1 1345035 MRP3791/19439981981/08-A STERLING RKS Disc 5 includes 12 further outtakes and live versions previously included on The Bootleg Series Vol. 8 so will already feature in many Dylan collections. These are no doubt included here to make this a complete collection of recordings taken from this period. One particular highlight here is the highly energised, almost incendiary live version of Cold Irons Bound from the Bonnaroo Festival in June 2004 and, based on this performance, I can only wonder how good it would be to get this full show officially released at some point in the future.Monumental 14CD Box Set Includes 5 Complete Bob Dylan Sets From Rolling Thunder Revue Concerts Spanning October-December First Leg, Rehearsal Performances, Rarities And More The latest chapter in Columbia/Legacy’s highly acclaimed Bob Dylan Bootleg Series takes a fresh look at Time Out of Mind, Dylan’s mid-career masterpiece, celebrating the album and its enduring impact 25 years after its original release on September 30, 1997. Fragments – Time Out of Mind Sessions (1996-1997): The Bootleg Series Vol.17 follows the evolution of songs written for the album, from intimate early incarnations in the previously unreleased 1996 Teatro sessions featuring Dylan (vocals, guitar, and piano), Daniel Lanois (guitar and organ), Tony Garnier (bass) and Tony Mangurian (drums and percussion) through incandescent live renditions (also previously unreleased) showcasing Dylan and his touring ensemble channeling the songs on-stage from 1998-2001. Not Dark Yet is a centre point of the album and regarded by so many fans, including myself, as one of his finest songs, and the two further versions included here are undoubtedly absolute highlights. The first is a much more upbeat version, which is great but not really in keeping with the vibe of the song, and the other aligned more with the dark and sombre feel of the album version. But, having said that, neither comes close to the superior version on the album. Disillusioned by modern recording techniques following 1990’s flat all-stars workout Under The Red Sky, the Minnesota-born legend’s creative energies were gradually regenerated by the extensive trawl through traditional Blues and folk songs (a crucial formative inspiration for Dylan’s songwriting) executed on the starkly solo acoustic Good As I Been to You (1992) and 1993’s World Gone Wrong. Shadow Kingdom originally aired as an exclusive streaming event in July 2021 and will now be available on vinyl, CD and streaming platforms for the first time. a b Erlewine, Stephen Thomas. It removes some of the Daniel Lanois effects and focuses on the intimate atmosphere in which the songs were recorded. The goal according to Steven Hyden (who pens the notes in this reissue) was to establish “ a greater closeness between listener and musician” and this remix isn’t intended to replace the original, but just offer an alternative. Make You Feel My Love (5/21/98, Los Angeles, California) (Previously released on the “Things Have Changed” maxi-single) Disc One of Bob Dylan – Fragments – Time Out of Mind Sessions (1996-1997): The Bootleg Series Vol.17 premieres 2022 mixes, by Michael H. Brauer at Brauer Sound Studios, of the eleven original recordings on Time Out of Mind. In his liner notes for the set, Steven Hyden writes, “The album itself has been remixed to sound more like how the songs came across when the musicians originally played them in the room, without the effects and processing that Lanois applied later. It’s not meant to replace the Time Out of Mind that won all of those Grammys a quarter-century ago; it’s a reimagining, an alternate view of a great work of art. If the original album remains mythic and enigmatic, this Time Out of Mind puts you in close proximity to the players.” The Time Out of Mind (2022 Remix) disc will be available in immersive audio, a first for a Bob Dylan recording.Billboard Japan Hot Albums – Week of February 1, 2023". Photography By – Antonin Kratochvil, Daniel Lanois, Danny Clinch, Geoff Gans, Gilles Peress, Merilyn Rosenberg*, Mark Seliger, Randee St. Nicholas The album features seminal recordings from the artist’s coffeehouse era (Gerde’s Folk City, 1962), his mythic 1963 breakout concerts at New York’s Town Hall and Carnegie Hall, a duet with Joan Baez from the historic March on Washington (August 28, 1963), definitive performances from his European and world tours of 1965 and 1966, incandescent moments from the 1964 and 1965 Newport Folk Festivals and more. There is little doubt that Time Out Of Mind is an album which has a very significant place both in the life of Bob Dylan and the collections of his fans, myself included, having always regarded it as one of his greatest bodies of work. To give this some context, Dylan had not released an album of original material for seven years since Under The Red Sky in 1990 and many were casting doubts on his ongoing longevity as a creative artist. And it appears that Dylan himself may have shared some of this doubt, having talked openly through those years about having enough songs to sing, perhaps questioning or even justifying the need not to write many more. But fortunately, in the snowy winter of 1996, Dylan finally found a spark of inspiration, perhaps fuelled by his desire to plunder the archives of his peers from which he originally gained so much stimulation at the start of his career, and all that was about to change.
