About this deal

In terms of noise, on the highest speed fan setting I measured the MeacoDry Arete One at 48.8dB, which is certainly loud enough to hear; on low speed, it was 45.9dB when measured from a distance of 1m. As important as it is to have moisture in the air, too much can cause problems, from mould growth to making it feel hotter as a result of sweat being unable to evaporate. Dehumidifiers are the solution, but many are expensive to run and fiddly to use. The MeacoDry Arete One aims to fix that. It’s relatively cheap to run and can aim for an ideal humidity level automatically, so you’ll never over-dry your air. Design and Features

Plus, when running the dehumidifier in the kitchen, I found that it got rid of odours from cooking. Thank you for the heads up on the typo, we have fixed that straight away. At 7p per hour it will be 56p for the example of 8 hours. As mentioned, the water tank stores 4.8L and simply slides in and out of the body of the unit. On even the heaviest day of testing I didn’t have to empty it more than once, although I’ve generally been working at room temperatures of around 22°C with humidity levels starting at around 62-67%. If you’re dehumidifying a seriously damp space or one that’s been flooded, then you may have to empty more often. The unit also supports continuous drainage, although you’ll need your own hose and a nearby drain or sink. There are also hidden castors on the base of the dehumidifier, so rolling the unit from room to room is also an option. I found it rolled well on both hard floor and carpet, unlike many other dehumidifiers of this weight that struggled on carpet. Maintenance I've been really pleasantly surprised by how quiet the MeacoDry Arete One dehumidifier is.Especially considering noisy operation is usually one of the biggest downsides of running a compressor dehumidifier.

How much does it cost to run a compressor vs desiccant dehumidifier?

The only quieter dehumidifiers I've come across are Peltier models, like the Pro Breeze 1500ml Mini Dehumidifier. However, Peltier dehumidifiers are far less powerful than compressor dehumidifiers. For comparison, as I discovered in my Pro Breeze 1500ml Mini Dehumidifier review, this Peltier model can only extract 0.5L of moisture from the air per day, compared to the MeacoDry Arete One range which can extract 10, 12, 20, or 25L of moisture per day! Portability What do you do if you already produce some of the quietest and most energy-efficiency dehumidifiers on the market? With Meaco’s new MeacoDry Arete One, the answer is to go even lower with power consumption and even quieter – and with some higher capacity options, too. The MeacoDry Arete One 12L dehumidifier is a great buy for apartments or small to medium-sized houses, and it’s easy to move from room to room thanks to the extendable handle and castors, and compact enough to store easily when not in use.Larger homes, or those with more serious damp issues, may benefit from opting for the MeacoDry Arete One 20 or 25L which offer the same great functionality with an increased extraction capacity.

To find out more about compressor dehumidifiers, take a look at our Low Energy Compressor Dehumidifiers ? What makes a cost-effective dehumidifier? Power requirements change, too. The first example draws 179W, while the second one requires 211W. At the maximum draw, the MeacoDry Arete One uses 235W of power. That isn’t unusual for a compressor-based dehumidifier, working out at around 3.3p per hour. Not as much as you’d think! Our dehumidifiers are designed to be as energy-efficient as possible, and most of the dehumidifiers sold by other brands are efficient too. That means that even the cost of running a dehumidifier continuously might be less than you think. Arete is the perfect solution to dealing with condensation, mould and damp problems either in the home, in a garage, on a boat or in a caravan. Features and Benefits For emptying, the tank simply pulls out the front of the machine so you can pour away the water. Just be careful, though – the tank is quite heavy when full.We chose the name Arete because she is the Greek Goddess of Excellence in all things. That was our goal with this new range – and we think it’s what we have achieved. With real attention to detail and exhaustive testing and trails, we believe this is the perfect dehumidifier.

This handle feels far more robust than most that I've come across on other dehumidifiers and is really easy to grip. Rated a Which? Best Buy, this is our most energy efficient dehumidifier range yet. Ultra-quiet and with a host of special features, living with Arete will be a breeze. Basically, if you have a larger house with large rooms and a damp problem, then this is the kind of dehumidifier you should look at if you want to deal with the issue. But is it up there the best?I suffer from hayfever, and when I left the dehumidifier running all night, I woke up and didn’t have any allergy symptoms at all. What’s more, the new model comes in a 25L variant for larger households, which isn’t an option with the ABC range. This makes it the most powerful unit in Meaco’s current range and significantly quieter than the outgoing Meaco 25L model, which could dish out up to 50dB(A). I had the MeacoDry Arete One running whilst I worked and watched TV and it didn’t bother me at all. The official stats say it runs at just 35dB, and it certainly felt very quiet in practice. The only dehumidifier I've found that does a better job at clothes drying is the Pro Breeze 20L Premium Dehumidifier with Special Laundry Mode. This powerful 20L dehumidifier made fast work of drying wet washing in my tests, although, it's likely its increased extraction rate helped it in this regard. I haven't tested the 20L MeacoDry Arete One which would likely perform on a par.

Beyond that, this dehumidifier is very easy to use, the controls are all really well laid out, and there’s not too much to get your head around when it comes to operating it. Meaco’s existing 20L MeacoDry ABC dehumidifier produced a maximum 44dB(A) of noise at one metre and consumed roughly 244W. The Arete One is specified to top out at 40dB(A) and consume around 250W, although – as we’ll see later – measured consumption is actually much lower. It's a bit of a bonus that this dehumidifier also comes with an air purifier function –something most dehumidifier's don't offer – and I found it worked really well. It’s definitely worth adding in that HEPA filter which you’ll find included in the box when the dehumidifier is delivered. I was testing the 12L Arete One, which means that it can extract up to 12 litres of moisture from the air per day. And thanks to a generous 2.5L water tank, there's plenty of capacity to collect this condensed water. That means you don't need to constantly empty the dehumidifier as I found I was doing with other models. Compressor machines will always be cheaper to run than desiccant dehumidifiers. That’s because they don’t return heat to the space and are only really designed for spaces above 10°C. So running costs for them float between 5p and 9p per hour. A compressor machine running at normal room temperatures will always be the cheapest way to dry the air, especially when you start looking at cost in terms of pence per litre of water.

Welcome to the latest in dehumidifier design: the new award-winning Meaco Arete. This collection has been in development for 5 years, with the dedicated Meaco design team working closely with more than 2000 customers to find out exactly what makes the perfect dehumidifier. We know that the thing you do most often is empty the water tank. So we wanted to make sure that was easy to do without too much effort and without annoying spillage As with all these questions, the heart of the matter lies in how often you’re planning to use your dehumidifier. If you are running a dehumidifier 24/7, the costs will clearly be higher than if you’re just using it for a couple of hours a day. It also depends on the season – dehumidifiers are more often used in the autumn and winter than in the spring and summer, so your running costs will necessarily be higher during the colder months. In fact, the MeacoDry dehumidifier range as a whole comprises the most energy efficent dehumidifiers that we've come across, regularly beating their main competitor – Pro Breeze – on cost to run.
