About this deal

Zino Davidoff Group is the trading name of Zino Davidoff SA, [1] a Swiss family business that was spun out of tobacco-product company Davidoff in 1980. [2] It is active exclusively in the non-tobacco luxury goods segment and offers a range of upscale products. [3] Overview [ edit ] It went on to influence many perfumes - the connection to Heritage(Guerlain) and Beau du Jour (Tom Ford) is well known. It also seems to have influenced Lui (Mazzolari) - which just feels like they undressed Zino. So, less rounded & sweet and more rancid, sweaty, animalic Patchouli. Even Danger (Roja) is definitely influenced by this, via Heritage - a posh modernised variation. Davidoff is a Swiss premium brand of cigars, cigarettes and smoker's accessories. The Davidoff cigarette brand has been owned by Imperial Brands after purchasing it in 2006. [1] The non-cigarette portion of the Davidoff tobacco brand is owned by Oettinger Davidoff AG, which is based in Basel, Switzerland. [2]

While diving into the history of the Davidoff house, I got to explore his second fragrance Zino (1986)after writing about the first one, Davidoff Original (1984) (Read all about why Zino, and who Davidoff is,as well as a brief history of the Davidoff brand here). In 1967, Zino Davidoff was approached by Cubatabaco, Cuba's state tobacco monopoly, about creating a line of cigars carrying the "Davidoff" name. The cigars were rolled in the newly established El Laguito factory in Havana, which had been established to roll Cuban President Fidel Castro's own personal cigars, named Cohíba. The first Davidoff fragrance was launched in 1984. In 1988, the brand's [14] most renowned fragrance, Davidoff Cool Water, was launched. It was created by Pierre Bourdon, [15] and was one of the first fragrances for men to pioneer the aquatic theme and to offer a fresh and masculine fragrance. [16]In 1976, the "Mille Series" and, in 1977, the “Dom Pérignon” cigar, named after the champagne, were released. In 1986, a limited release of "Anniversario" cigars were produced, to celebrate Zino Davidoff's 80th birthday. After the Second World War, Zino Davidoff decided to acquire a licence to produce his own series of cigars. [5] As he had discerning international customers, he named the various formats of this "Château" cigar series after famous Bordeaux vineyard estates. The first in the series was the "Château Latour" in 1946. In 1990, after discontinuing Cuban-made products, Davidoff started to produce cigars in the Dominican Republic. After numerous test runs, Zino Davidoff found a partner in the local producer “Tabadom”, owned by Hendrik Kelner. In 1991, the first Dominican-made Davidoff cigars were launched, continuing the product lines and cigar formats of their Cuban predecessors. With the move to the Dominican Republic, the Château series was renamed "Grand Cru", and the individual formats were numbered instead of carrying the names of vineyard estates. Zino Davidoff established himself as one of Europe’s principal suppliers of cigars, and his name remains one of the most powerful brands in the field of luxury products. He was born to a Jewish family in Novhorod-Siverskyi, which in 1906 was part of the Russian Empire but is now in Ukraine. His father had a tobacco business in Kiev but in 1911 the family migrated to Geneva, where they opened a small tobacco shop.

Basenotes

Zino Davidoff, a pioneering figure in the world of tobacco, embarked on a quest for knowledge and worldly encounters at the tender age of 19 - With the creation of the new Zino cigar brand, Davidoffs goal was to capture Zino Davidoff's spirit of exploration and his ability to fully embrace the present moment. When you see the famous name of Zino Davidoff on a cigar, you expect nothing less than great flavours and a solid build that does nothing to detract or distract you from the experience and shear joy of smoking a cigar. Got to say WOW!!! this did not disappoint in the slightest.Wen CP, Chen T, Tsai YY, Tsai SP, Chung WS, Cheng TY, Levy DT, Hsu CC, Peterson R, Liu WY (June 2005). Mildly spicy and silky in the smoke texture, a touch of pepper...a subtle, medium-bodied cigar. discreet nut aromas, underscored by a creamy, occasionally delicate, bitter sweetness, spread out on the palate. This is harmony!..."

The philosophy is to keep the classic architecture in the new perfumes by inserting new ingredients instead of the expected ones. So, for the 1986 Zino, Almairac took the structure of the feminine classic Shalimar Guerlain - citruses and flowers based on vanilla and tonka beans - and masculinized it, fortifying the base with cedar, sandalwood, and patchouli, but omitting tonka beans. The tophas been given a classic men's barbershop duo of lavender and rosewood instead of Shalimar'sflowers."

Fragrances | DAVIDOFF

The Zino Davidoff Group was founded in 1980 by Ukrainian-Jewish immigrant Zino Davidoff (born Sussele-Meier Davidoff), [11] [12] who lived in Switzerland. [13] Min Ron Nee, An Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Post-Revolution Havana Cigars (2003, Reprinted: 2005). For those who see Zino as just too weird, or dated, or feminine, it’s worth looking at some of its contemporaries, especially those that used rose, lily-of-the-valley and other florals as central to their composition—like many of the fabulous early Estee Lauder scents like Aromatics Elixir (1971) and Aramis 900 (1973) and the legendary JHL (1982) and Lauder for Men (1985). Zino is in great company here, and not all that different from these or from Obsession (1986) which came out the same year, or it’s slightly older floral patchouli brother, Giorgio for Men (1984), with its similarly stunning patchouli drydown. These would be followed at the end of the decade by Boucheron Pour Homme (1989), another seminal men’s fragrance with rose and soap at its heart. Not all so long ago really. But now from a totally different era.

In 1971, the Davidoff "Mini Cigarillos" (short fillers made of 100% tobacco) and, in 1972, the first Davidoff pipe tobaccos were released. As of 1975, the cigars of the Château series were delivered in cabinets bearing the Davidoff logo. The cigar starts changing, growing milder, alongside the appearance of an enjoyable sweetness. The aroma becomes milder and flavours of roasted coffee beans and dark, bitter chocolate make themselves known. The cigar develops a creaminess at the end of the second third. If you have any affection for barbershops like Rive Gauche, Paco Rabanne PH or Azzaro PH, you absolutely must try this. Wakefield, Steve. "Very Zino – the New Luxury Brand from Davidoff".
