About this deal

For romance fans, there's a budding love story in the novel, which leads to friction between the female characters.....but not for the reasons you might think. There's also an interesting theme about the damage caused by sports-enhancement drugs, which I found intriguing. Reading about people with photographic memories has always fascinated me. This one was no exception. Hooked to the characters, the writer simply made it impossible to trust any of them. Anyone could have been the criminal, sitting and chatting next to you. Yet, you could never know what they were plotting. From my progress notes: "Roughly half-way through, I am being distracted by the "ordinariness" of the writing, with some of the dialogue being almost banal. I am a fan of David Baldacci and to date I have read/listened to over 20 (novels) of his prodigious output. At this stage, "The Fix" is unlikely to rate very highly with me."

The story itself was complex as well. There were, in fact, a few parallel storylines going in the book, and, at times, I had trouble keeping them apart. There were really a lot of things going on compared to the shadow of a town that the place has become over the years. But, I guess, if you’re searching for trouble and poking the bee’s nest, you will definitely find it. of those kind of books so if you like these kind of mysteries I really think you will like it a lot. As for the plot, Baronville is like so many other ghost towns in America where drugs like opioids have become a real issue taking the lives of so many. I love how Amos was able to connect the dots and find the culprits to these horrible crimes and bring justice to the small town of Baronville.Along with his brain change, his personality had changed as well. The gregarious fun-loving prankster had forever vanished and in its place - In The Fallen, everything was much more personal for Alex. She was trying to protect her family from harm while helping Amos solve the crimes. Amos also had some questions about his own memory and what could happen to his abilities in the future. Amos' behavior could still be odd at times but he was able to forge a connection with Zoe, Alex's niece. This is the fourth book in the Memory Man series and while not my favorite it was entertaining and timely. Suffice to say, once a cop, always a cop, and Amos, who is now working in a special task force for the FBI, can’t leave the strange things he saw around a neighbor’s home alone. So he goes to investigate. And what he finds there will bring his holiday crashing down around him with force.

Anne Berkshire, a substitute teacher at a Catholic school and volunteer at a local hospice, lived in a multimillion dollar condominium and owned a an expensive Mercedes. And they can learn nothing of her past beyond ten years ago. People at the Catholic school where she worked and the hospice where she volunteered really didn't know her that well. No one was close to her. Something sinister is going on in Baronville. The rust belt town has seen four bizarre murders in the space of two weeks. Cryptic clues left at the scenes--obscure bible verses, odd symbols--have the police stumped. Baldacci is a two-time recipient of the International Thriller Writers’“Thriller Master” award, the highest honor given by the organization. There was accidental death: Your car inadvertently slams into another with death as a result, or you drop a gun and it goes off and the fired bullet strikes a bystander. Someone was dead but it wasn’t murder.

Something sinister is going on in Baronville. The rust belt town has seen four bizarre murders in the space of two weeks. He started his career by writing his very first novel absolute power which was made to the public in the year 1996! The thing to consider about him is that he loves animals a lot! Disclaimer

This is a very depressed area, drugs and theft run rampant and people overdosing on opiates so common the local police carry Narcan (opioid reversal drug) as part of their regular equipment. I liked the character of John Barron, the last living survivor of the family that literally created that town (hence the town’s name as well). He was really like a real gem compared to the rest of the angry and vengeful population. I wouldn’t mind seeing him make an appearance in some later book. His wit and charm captivated my attention. In 2020, Baldacci launched his own podcast, “David Baldacci’s Power of Story,” where he interviews fellow authors and discusses the craft of writing. All this puts the populace in a dark mood, and most people blame John Baron, the last remaining descendant of the town's founder. The populace believes John's grandfather, a mean-spirited scrooge, let the town die, and they resent the only remaining family member.
