About this deal

This Advance Upgrade elevates the Kuru Toga Advance to the next level. The Advance Upgrade includes the “W Speed Engine,” sliding lead sleeve, and metal clip from its predecessor. Instead of the plastic grip section on the Advance, this pencil has a metal one that is matte and textured, which makes it easier to hold. This additional metal component gives the pencil more weight while remaining well-balanced in the hand. Those who appreciate the professional look of the High Grade and the lead rotation mechanism of the Advance will find a happy medium in this pencil. This mechanical pencil is available in multiple tip sizes, including 0.3 mm, 0.5 mm, and 0.7 mm. It means that it can be used for a wide range of purposes, including sketching, writing, doodling, drawing, drafting, and more. Lastly, you can jam a pencil by putting too much lead inside the chamber. A typical mechanical pencil will work great with 2 or 3 spare pieces of lead inside. If you add 7 or 8 a jam is likely to occur. To make it easier to hold the pencil for longer periods, the Delguard mechanical pencil comes with a textured grip. This provides greater comfort than regular non-textured options and reduces hand fatigue. Additionally, a better grip reduces the chances of the pencil falling down. 3. Refillable Eraser

A mechanical pencil is refillable and looks more professional than a traditional pencil. Best (and most obvious) of all, its lead is erasable. So you can leave the correction fluid in the drawer. Tradition dictates that pencils should be used for rough sketches, arithmetic, and any other time that you might need to erase or change the marks you’ve made. We eliminated pencils with extremely squishy grips, such as the Pilot Dr. Grip and Dr. Grip Center of Gravity, and the Sakura SumoGrip. Although some people may want or need a squishier grip, we suggest trying the Uni Kuru Toga Alpha Gel, which retains a solid writing experience while softening the feel.

The 0.3 mm tip size is perfect for detailed lines and marks but can break easily. In contrast, the 0.5 mm tip size is ideal for tasks that require greater precision, like drafting. But if you have a bigger handwriting and are not involved in precision work, opt for the 0.7 mm option. At this point your pencil should be fixed and ready to go. FAQs Can I use a piece of lead to unjam a pencil? Kuru Toga pencils’ rotating engine prevent lead breaks but it also means there is a lot of play at the tip of the lead. Many people don’t like these pencils for this reason and instead opt for a traditional drafting pencil, like the Rotring 600, or for Zebra’s Delguard, which has its own anti-lead breaking mechanism. Types of Kuru Toga Pencils The knurled grip of the Roulette is unique to this model and ensures a secure grasp on the pencil. Additionally, the pencil’s metallic finish gives it a luxurious and high-tech feel. The Roulette also features a small window in the grip section to provide a view of the rotation mechanism.

Lead cushioning: Some mechanical pencils use a lead cushion or guard that reinforces the lead against rougher writing styles. If you’re aggressive with your writing utensils, you may want to consider it. Jamming happens more often with smaller diameter lead pencils, such as 0.3 mm, but it can happen to any drafting or mechanical pencil. Harder leads (for example 2H or 3H) are more prone to breaking and more likely to jam a pencil. The Delguard mechanical pencil from Zebra has a double spring mechanism that helps protect the lead from breakage. This is because while one of the springs helps reduce vertical pressure, another reduces the pressure exerted diagonally during writing or sketching. So, the overall pressure on the lead is significantly reduced, and the chances of breakage are minimal. 2. Textured Grip

With its modern, refined appearance, the High Grade model is ideal for professional settings. Its matte aluminum grip section has ridges that support your fingers as you write. You can still see the Kuru Toga rotation mechanism hard at work through a discreet circular window located in the grip of the pencil. If you’re pencil doesn’t include a cleaning rod, you can buy an eraser kit that includes one. Just makes sure that the rod is the right size for your pencil — that is, not bigger than the diameter of your lead. Smaller, say 0.3 mm for a 0.5 mm pencil, is OK though!

If your pencil doesn’t include a cleaning rod you can try to find a thin piece of metal wire or safety pin, but this can be very tough to do, especially for 0.2 mm and 0.3 mm pencils. You can get creative with this and try something like a very skinny pipe cleaner, but just make sure that whatever you use for the job isn’t going to make things worse or leave any fragments inside your pencil. Pentel PPE-2 eraser with cleaning rod Open the clutch, either by pushing down the pencil button. Alternatively this might require pushing the pencil down (pushing the top button) while pushing a small collar down You won’t find such features when comparing other mechanical pencils, like the Rotring 800 vs. Pentel Graphgear 1000. Product Features 1. Double Spring Mechanism

On the other hand, if you face situations where the lead is constantly breaking, the Zebra Delguard is a better option. It is further suitable for those using harsher strokes than softer ones, as there is no breaking or clogging of the lead. Originally established as the Masaki Pencil Manufacturing Company in Tokyo in 1887, the Uni Mitsubishi company manufactures the famous Kuru Toga mechanical pencils. But the brand is also known for its other pencils, including regular pencils, ballpoint pens, etc. Uni Kuru Toga Review

Kiwi-d, Pentel Graphgear 1000 PG1015 Mechanical Pencil Review, Dave’s Mechanical Pencils, December 12, 2006 The Kuru Toga KS has a simplified design that won’t distract you in the middle of your notes. The rubber grip is comfortable to hold, and the revamped rotation mechanism minimizes movement of the pencil’s lead pipe. There's a replaceable eraser under the push-button. Supplied fitted with HB Uni Nano Dia lead - which are another innovation - being stronger than any previous lead due to some clever nano-technology. The Standard model is the most basic of the Kuru Toga line. It features a clear grip section where you can clearly see the mechanism at work while you write. The grip also has shallow grooves that allow you to hold the pencil firmly. The Standard pencil comes in three tip sizes and is also available in a variety of colors. The Pipe Slide sports a sliding lead sleeve, and it also uses the “W Speed Engine.” This mechanical pencil is a good option for those who prefer a lightweight writing instrument, as it’s the lightest of the three Kuru Toga pencils with sliding lead sleeves and “W Speed Engines.”

These lead pieces are responsible for causing clogging, which is a very common issue with lead pencils from many other brands. 6. Three Different Tip Sizes The insertion of the clearing rod should clear any jams. Remove it slowly and push the button until lead comes out. Pentel – GraphGear 500: We loved the GraphGear 1000, but its little brother didn’t make the same impression. We found the 500 to be dull and fragile, with lead that breaks too easily and a lead changing process that’s too time-consuming. This one isn’t worth paying over five dollars for.
