About this deal

Former Nightwish vocalist Marco Hietala has appeared on numerous Delain albums over the years, and his distinctive style helps elevate "Invictus," which is the album's centerpiece. The vocal department holds new adventures with guest singer Paolo Ribaldini, who also highlights the hauntingly beautiful “Beneath” as the ultimate hymn. DELAIN’s renowned orchestral arrangements, highlighted by modern shadings, set new standards and manifest the five-piece on top of the scene. While not their finest hour, the very existence of Dark Waters – and the fact that it doesn’t suck – is a marvel, and live shows will hopefully rekindle their fanbase’s once rabid loyalty. It does have some softer moments built within the songs though and that is what still pushes me to 5 stars even though masterpiece isn't the right word in my opinion.

Similar to Xandria's line-up issues, I also had worries that Delain will no longer be one of my favourite female fronted metal bands after Charlotte Wessels was out as her voice is so charming with high recognition value. Keyboard player and founder member Martijn Westerholt vowed to put a new band together under the same name, a prospect that made most fans hold their heads in dismay. Charlotte Wessels: "When was the last time you heard someone ask, 'What's it like being a man in a metal band? A sonic rollercoaster ride of catchy tunes with explosive elements - ranging from pop to film score-inspired to blistering metal - merge perfectly with Diana's fantastic voice, showcasing her incredible talent and musical sophistication. On 15 February 2021, it was announced that Delain's lineup had split up, and that it would be continuing with a new lineup that Westerholt stated would continue to "keep Delain alive", which consists of new and previous members.Singer Sharon den Adel guested on Delain's 2006 debut Lucidity, and in 2023 Within Temptation's Ruud Jolie lends his guitar talents to "Mirror of Night," a dynamic number that has both quiet piano sections and heavy cinematic parts.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Thus, many of songs – though enjoyable – don’t come close to those adorning the recent album by outwardly similar German rockers Beyond The Black.

New album Dark Waters, their seventh overall, sounds like nothing other than a Delain album, features several former members and marks the debut of Romanian-born singer Diana Leah who sounds – eerily, it must be said – exactly like her predecessor, the justly popular Charlotte Wessels. He brought back drummer Sander Zoer, who had been in the band from 2006 to 2014, along with former guitarist Ronald Landa, who was previously a member from 2006 to 2009. The future of the veteran Dutch symphonic metal band Delain was unclear after the lineup disbanded in early 2021, leaving only keyboardist Martijn Westerholt. really good, but for me a "masterpiece" has multiple songwriting element, which this is all energy and catchiness throughout the album.

Hovering close to the original DELAIN sound, it combines synth themes and metal riffs to create an incredible fusion between pop and heavy soundscapes, topped off with a brain-spinning guitar solo.

The band's new lineup was fully announced on the release of the first single, "The Quest and the Curse", on 9 August 2022, [11] as well as announcing their new lead vocalist, Diana Leah. Sadly, Ad Infinitum chooses to throw in incomprehensible death metal growling - which I flatly can't stand. Having been a fan of Delain for many years, both on record and live shows, I was a little worried that Diana Leah becoming lead vocalist rather than Charlotte Wessels, whom I love, may change the band.

With some former members in tow, Martijn has recreated the sound of before, new vocalist Diana sounds similar to Charlotte and the album is packed full of great tunes. The whole album has a very well-produced feel, and there is a good variety of songs to keep you engaged. In the end this is full of energy, catchy lyrics and melodies, and enough substance to make it great. Emerging as a brand new start and safe haven alike, Dark Waters, without any doubt, continues the legacy of this multi-million-streamed leading symphonic metal outfit and contains everything DELAIN is loved for and more. There are a few occasions where the music has more elements of the old Within Temptation in his keyboard sounds - no bad thing - and the album is very well produced, a big epic sounding record, and a very pleasant surprise!

DELAIN magnificently manages to never lose touch of their characteristic sound, making them a constant without ever standing still. The limited box edition features a third disc, containing orchestral versions of "Tainted Hearts", "The Cold", "Invictus" and "Underland". Rejoining the fold and bolstering DELAIN's continuity are original guitarist Ronald Landa and original drummer Sander Zoer, while new members - terrific vocalist Diana Leah and bassist Ludovico Cioffi - continue to evolve their sound.
