About this deal

We have a latter day Frankie Howerd type in David Millard, the Brummie of Brighella, Simon Billig, the crosspatch Jennifer Dorian, who can throw a spectacular tantrum, Lucy Ashton, disguised as a man, who relishes a dazzling swordfight, and gives such a sound beating, she had the first-night audience gasping, plus Lee Ocsko, Chris Millington, David Reed, Terry Perkins and Elaine Elliott. His earliest drafts had large sections that were reserved for improvisation, but he revised it in 1789 in the version that exists today. Mr Hall's introduction to this edition gives a really good background to the history of the play and explains why he felt it necessary to adapt it the way he did; in essence restoring the play to it's truest form after years of being performed in versions that were at least poor, but possibibly travesties. Cowley appears to have stolen two canisters of a new nerve gas and is recorded trying to sell them to German Otto Hahn. However there is now a location cheat because the exteriors of Hahn's place is Stubbings House, Henley Road, Maidenhead.

The Servant of Two Masters (Italian: Il servitore di due padroni) is a comedy by the Italian playwright Carlo Goldoni written in 1746. Recovering and angered, Merlin summons a great whirlwind to attack Morgana, knocking her unconscious. David de Keyser appeared in previous Brian Clemens productions such as Thriller and The New Avengers. The play tells the story of a hungry servant who, upon realizing that working for two masters could ensure him a greater supply of food, tries to do the job of two men while working desperately to conceal that fact from both employers.

Morgana is still unimpressed and warns him to do better before going out herself to collect firewood. This, combined with marriage arrangements, love affairs and even some cross dressing, serves to create a hilarious confusion from which it seems impossible for even the wily Arlechinno to escape! We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. Read all When Merlin falls into Morgana's hands, he becomes a deadly weapon in her fight for supremacy. The life of the Italian dramatist Carlo Goldoni almost exactly spanned the eighteenth century, a time when the traditional comedia dell'arte style was in decline and 'written' drama as we know it was beginning.

A battle ensues and Merlin risks using his magic to save Arthur, but is struck by a mace and knocked unconscious in the process. This isn't the first time, and it won't be the last, that audiences at a show transferred to the West End wonder why it has arrived with such enthusiastic notices.

What we wanted was the villains making a fight of it with lots of shooting, claret and flying bodies. I didn't see the recent London production of the play, but heard such good word of mouth, that I sought out this script. Carlo Goldoni's 18th century comedy about a wily servant who gets the best of his masters by hook and crook is one of the great classic commedia dell'arte scripts of world drama. His adaptation of A Servant to Two Masters was a smash hit for the RSC and the Young Vic, and continues to tour worldwide.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. The three tall chimneys on the right-hand side are the tell-tales here as all the other buildings in the vicinity have been replaced! Many comic scenarios in the commedia dell’arte revolve around the Innamorati (the lovers), and their fervent desire to be together. With that kind of ebullience, and skill in remembering to open and kick shut imaginary doors, as he attempts to serve up two feasts to the two masters, simultaneously, he takes an enthusiastic cast with him, all of them intent on setting an equally high bar with their own characterisations. Editor Joseph Farrell's accessible Introduction includes a plot synopsis, a commentary on the dramatic, social and political context, and on the themes, characters, language and structure of the play, as well a list of suggested reading, questions for further study and a review of performance history.True commedia dell'arte is more or less improvised without a script, so The Servant of Two Masters is not true commedia. The first is from Watkins, one of those hard-working actors who have been around an age doing unsung work and really deserve to be stars.

Merlin plays along with it until Morgana moves forward to stab him, then blasts her back with unspoken magic.

What we got was one villain sustaining light damage to his anorak, which was enough to scare his colleagues into surrendering! Immy Howard also contrived to produce what appeared to be an ingeniously authentic set of costumes on a low budget, staying true to the traditional tropes and designs and colour schemes. They later devise a plan to free him of the Fomorroh's control by destroying the mother beast, which Morgana has locked up in her hovel. Morgana accuses Merlin of condemning her sister to a slow and painful death, thwarting her plans to take over Camelot, and forcing her to live in a hovel.
