She was a tough character with a complicated past that seeped into her present. Maybe you're all better at guessing who culprits are, but I'm SO happy I didn't figure it out. That killer twist in the last chapter made it all worthwhile. A suspenseful, professional-grade north country procedural whose heroine, a deft mix of compassion and attitude, would be welcome to return and tie up the gaping loose end Box leaves. The unrelenting cold makes this the perfect beach read.

in the tradition of psychological suspense, paranoia grows throughout the novel, and suspicion is cast on many people close to zoe, increasing her anxiety and leaving her with no one to trust. many red herrings, many tense situations, much atmospheric dread. I liked how the author gave us glimpses into the deranged mind of the person behind it all. Each time I felt scared as to what could happen next. Other women begin appearing in the same ad, a different one every day, and Zoe realizes they've become the victims of increasingly violent crimes—including rape and murder. With the help of a determined cop, she uncovers the ad's twisted purpose...a discovery that turns her paranoia into full-blown panic. For now Zoe is sure that someone close to her has set her up as the next target. Very powerful story, chilling, and gripping, like her debut author a book so powerful it stays in your head, are you being watched? If you’re a regular train commuter then after reading I See You, you can probably add another emotion to the existing ones (boredom, frustration, etc).I thought this book was going to be a five star read for me, and it potentially could have been. I loved the premise, there were lots of twists, and I enjoyed trying to figure out who was behind it all, but the pacing just didn't quite work for me.

During her daily commute to work, Zoe happens to be reading her local paper and sees a picture of herself in the personal ads section. Confused and a little freaked out by it, she brings it home to show her family, and they convince her it’s not her, and just someone who looks like her. Zoe tries to forget about the picture, until she sees a picture of another woman in the paper the next day and then a few days later that same woman is murdered. On edge, Zoe is convinced she’s being followed. I See You is a fast paced psychological thriller that alternates point of views between a policewoman named Kelly who has taken on the case and Zoe, as she asks herself why her picture was in the paper, and is she in danger? A] well-crafted blend of calculated malevolence, cunning plot twists, and redemption that will appeal to fans of Sophie Hannah, Ruth Rendell, and Ruth Ware.”— Booklist (starred review) I think, in an effort to up the ante for readers who've come to anticipate 'big twists' at the end of thrillers, some authors go overboard.....and stretch credibility beyond the breaking point. For me, that's the case with this book. I didn't buy the epilog.
