About this deal

The book quotes from the bible and even states that it corresponds with Christ’s teachings. A few differences of the book compared to the bible came to mind as I was reading it: We came to this world free of this fear only to learn it along the way. The more we fear ill health the more we succumb to the authorities ways of how we must live. Everything begins to set us off, and we become addicted to fear and suffering leading to health anxiety. with kids- teach more and apply better. I want to help my kids apply the scriptures more. Teach them- food, self control, proper sexuality, service, definitiveness, to think. You are entitled to know that two entities occupy your body. One of these entities is motivated by and responds to the impulse of fear. The other is motivated by and responds to the impulse of faith. Will you be guided by faith or will you allow fear to overtake you?"

Outwitting the Devil: the Secret to Freedom and Success, by Napoleon Hill and Sharon L. Lechter. New York: Sterling Publishing, 2011. ISBN 1-4027-8453-8 Napoleon Hill is renowned for his endeavors in the pursuit of truth and finding the formula for success. Mr. Devil: I would say that there’s no greater enemy than yourself. Even I have no power over those who clearly understand the power of positive thought. The book unfolds as an allegorical conversation between Hill and the Devil. Through their dialogue, Hill uncovers the Devil's cunning methods of manipulating human minds, and he identifies various ways in which people are controlled and misled by negative influences. Mr. Devil: Cigarettes are also a tool that helps me to hold society in a stranglehold and keep it there permanently.Developing and applying imagination : The power of imagination enables individuals to visualize their goals and develop creative solutions to the challenges they face. By nurturing their imagination and applying it to their endeavors, people can overcome the limitations imposed by the Devil. The fact is that we are saved through Christ's atonement, not by being determined and putting ourselves first. That's the biggest lie that bothers me the most. If you’re driven by impulse all your life, you’ll go nowhere, like a drifter. Controlling environmental influence. Who you spend time with matters. What your room looks like matters. What your car looks like matters.

I saw this in me for decades in fact until I stopped to think how ridiculous it all really was. For the fear of poverty I slept on the streets for 3 nights just so I could see how bad things could really get. I met new people, made some cash, and felt freer than I had for years. That action led me to overcoming this silly fear. That doesn’t imply that you should accept defeat, merely to learn lessons out of it. And to be able to that, one must be geared up with the right mindset. Discern the difference between Truth and Reality Rule #8: When you pray, do not beg! Demand what you want and insist upon getting exactly that, with no substitutes.

Understand that not having a plan, is a plan by itself. Just not a good one. If you don’t have the destination of where you want to go in mind, then you will just let the wind decide instead. Mr. Devil: Because I control 98% of the world, and there’s nothing you can do! I am the majority, that’s why. Rule #1: Do your own thinking on all occasions. The fact that human beings are given complete control over nothing except the power to think their own thought, is filled with significance. Going into his fictitious interview with evil incarnate, Hill already knew one of the primary tools in the devil’s belt: fear. A few years earlier, Hill had received a death threat. He ended up hiding with relatives for over a year, paralyzed. One night, he finally went outside and found what Carnegie had told him about years before: Learning from adversity. Failures are just failures. Whether you learn from them or let them stop you is up to you.

I had read another book from Napoleon Hill - Think And Grow Rich - in 2014 (over six years ago), and it impacted me at the time. This is just one part of why I disliked this book. I saw a ton of other major concerns related to the way you should bring up children, among other things.Controlling environmental influence (associations - avoid associating with people who bring you down) Harmony (acting with definiteness of purpose to become the dominating influence in your own mental) spiritual and physical environment) Time. Time can make drifting and negativity permanent. But it can also make positivity and wisdom permanent. Harmony (acting with definiteness of purpose to become the dominating influence in your own mental, spiritual and physical environment.)

Mr. Carnegie was surprised to hear that Hill planned to get his degree by interviewing successful people and writing their stories in magazines. Despite being written almost 80 years ago, the world problems signaled throughout the book are incredibly timely - from the aimless, futile education system, to the parents inculcating fear upon their children, to the church which builds its entire argument around the fear of Evil, to the power of the so-called hypnotic rhythm and many, many other things like this.Mr. Devil: In that regard, I am helpless, and it’s not up to me! It’s the minds of my prisoners which have to reject me, not vice versa. However, you should be aware of the fact that “Reality” is self-created; it’s not a Universal fact. Rule #4: Be willing to render useful service equivalent to the value of all material things you demand of life and render the service first. But in this instance the show loses shape in a way that leaves the audience baffled. There’s occasional text projected above the stage, a translation of the French voiceover, although these are no more than fragments of Gilgamesh’s story.
