About this deal

Just when you think you have the plot twist figured out, here comes another plot twist and then another plot twist… Fantastic… I would give this more than five stars if I could! It was highly addicting and hard to put down.’ Goodreads reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This is my umpteenth book by Nicole Trope and she is one of my favourite authors. I love her style and the fact she is in Sydney too so I can relate to some of what she is writing about - places, the weather, the cost of things etc. I read this book in a day, and as with all her books, it was the perfect afternoon or bedtime read. With this thrilling story being alternately narrated by Andy and Gabby, Andy is navigating a difficult situation with a change of circumstances after she and her husband moved into a house that could stand some major updates. Along with that, she finds herself utterly drained and feeling like her life is out of control. Meanwhile, Gabby‘s problems relate to her feeling like her life isn’t going in the direction that she wants. In fact, she starts to think that she can change her circumstances in what would be a drastic and actually a catastrophic way. When strange things start to happen, Andrea doesn't know if she's imagining it, or if Terry's gambling problem has reared its ugly head again. Does she have time to discover the truth before losing her family for good this time?

Andrea surveys the room, trying not to let the heaviness of despair stop her from doing what she needs to do. Which is everything.

She has a child and another on the way, and Terry is the breadwinner in the family. She couldn’t leave even if she wanted to. I don’t want to leave. I love Terry. I love or loved the life we created together. Terry is a charmer. A man with the widest smile and the loudest laugh. He’s funny and sweet and no one can make her laugh like he can. It’s about how we react when we find ourselves in the midst of the unthinkable. It’s about the tendency to overlook our blessings at the first sign of a struggle. And most of all, it’s about the importance of living authentically, wary about the ‘fake news’ that bombards us daily. As you can imagine, both Gabby and Andrea are keeping secrets. Some of the twists seemed pretty obvious to me but others were a surprise. Even when I had figured out the twist, I thought the storyline flowed well and the overall pacing of the book was fast. The end had some genuine surprises and I liked how it all turned out, though I think some people probably won’t. I’ll go through the garage and see if I can find some spare ones. The old owners must have left some – they always do,’ Terry promised her, but she has little hope of that actually happening. This novel consists of a prologue, 34 chapters and 2 epilogues. The chapters are short to medium in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This morning, before he left for work, he kissed her gently on the forehead. ‘Things will get better, I know they will,’ he whispered. She had closed her eyes and sent a plea up to the heavens that they would get better. I'm becoming a huge Trope fan, she writes fascinating characters with a wonderfully gripping plot around them. This book is fantastically written with vivid descriptions that absolutely grip the readers attention and puts them right in the middle of it all feeling the hairs raise on their arms and feeling their heart pounding with Andrea's. This title, cover and synopsis suited it perfectly along with the cover and synopsis. Nicole Trope pulled out all of the stops when she presents her latest psychological thriller. We have two principal characters, Andy and Gabby. Andy is married to Tom and they have a three-year-old son and she is also pregnant with their second child. Gabby lives across the street from them and is the mom to a teenage boy. In fact, Gabby is a social media influencer and most of her time is spent keeping up her posts on social media. However, at some point Andy and Gabby meet and before long Gabby is the perfect stand-in for whenever Andy needs help with her son.Well I never saw the twist until I went HUH! I identified with all the well rounded characters so brilliantly narrated! I wanted to hurry to the end, but also didn’t want to come to the end of the book, Omg! Omg… My son came in and asked me who I was yelling at?! (I was yelling at my e-reader)… LOL, my heart is still beating crazy!… OK, I have to go now. I need a big glass of wine to calm down!’Ana's Attic Guest Reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ No storage space and no light,’ she mutters. ‘Right.’ Andrea roughly shoves a bunch of mismatched brown and cream towels into the cupboard. She needs a cup of tea and some chocolate. The Stay-at-Home Mother is a story of a struggling mother (Andrea) who has moved recently and is expecting her second child. Her neighbor from across the street (Gabby) who has a teenage boy is helping her with looking after her little son but one day when Andrea wakes up she finds Gabby’s house messy and her little son is nowhere… Her chest tightens, her heart speeding up. The kitchen is chaos. She steps on something hard, and looks down. Toy dinosaurs are scattered everywhere. But her son is nowhere - her baby boy is gone. The police arrive. She can't look at her husband, she studies the network of lines on her shaking hands. Then her phone beeps with a voice message. "Listen to it on speaker" says the detective. A woman's voice fills the air....
