About this deal

Refilling is also very easy. Remove the latch from the hoppers lid, and the fan will immediately stop blowing. You refill the charcoal or briquettes and close the lid again. The fan then starts working without the temperature in the kettle having dropped. Not sure why these are different. I have a little caution as to how long they will last and how much babysitting they will need. It can also accept right around 16lbs of briquettes depending on the size and brand. We’ve heard that users have gotten up to 15 hours of burn time for low and slow cooks using briquettes, but you can always add more charcoal during a cook as the need arises. We’ll be breaking down the differences between the two models here in just a moment. But first let’s talk about what’s the same in both the 560 and the 1050. Functionality:

The issues I had was that basically whole briquettes and large chunks of lump would still fall through and often. And of course, what’s a smoker test from AmazingRibs.com without ribs? Here are the results of a 6-hour low & slow BBQ rib cook following our Last Meal Ribs recipe. Once again, a successful cook and a very happy mouth. The Gravity series has a shiny new digital controller that allows you to control everything about your cook from the digital interface. The digital temperature control is also connected to both bluetooth and Wifi to allow you control from your smart device when you’re not standing right in front of the grill. According to Masterbuilt, you should be able to smoke for 12 to 15 hours with a fully filled hopper of charcoal, but we have not yet made that happen. After about eight hours (sometimes nine), we have to fill it again. That’s fine, of course, but something to keep an eye on if you plan to run the smoker all night. So before you go to bed, you fill it up, and you’ll be fine.

560 Griddle Shroud

If you love American barbecue and a strong smoky flavour, throw a few chunks of smoke wood in between the coals in the hopper. The smoke then enters the kettle more directly, so you can be sure of a good smoky taste.

This was partly due to the sometimes difficult to understand instructions. But also because there are many parts that you have to put together. In the end, we build it in an hour and a half. And maybe that’s because we may not be very handy. The Takeaway: Masterbuilt just made charcoal grilling a whole lot easier with the 560 Digital. From start up to clean up, the innovative design eliminates some of the biggest issues people have using charcoal. Plus, it smokes as well as it grills. There's an app for that! Set it and go with your smart device. Learn to master the art of smoking, grilling and more with the Masterbuilt App. The grill has a range of 225° on the low end and 700° on the high end. It’s selectable in 5° increments from the temperature control panel, and the onboard fan/controller combo do all the work of maintaining the temperature. Portability:Plus, one day those rivets will rust, and then the side tray may come as also. The bottom storage area is decently sturdy. I actually recorded temperatures as high as 737°F a few times so it’s safe to say this grill can sear. Temperature accuracy test On the left side of the cooker above the digital control panel is a convenient 14 x 15 inch side shelf with 3 pegs to hook your tongs, scraper, or the air & heat intake slides during grill use. There is also a large bottom shelf underneath with plenty of space for charcoal bags, wood chunks, starters, etc. The lid has a dial heat indicator, which we hesitate to call a thermometer because it has no numbers, only ranges, and numbers are not needed since the digital display shows the cooking temp. Like any modern barbecue or smoker that is digitally controlled, the Masterbuilt smoker also has a blue tooth connection with an app. The range of this connection is approximately 10 to 12 meters. Just enough for most houses. In the open air, you can reach at least 16 meters. Durability and Craftsmanship: Crafted with high-quality materials and superior craftsmanship, the Gravity Series 560 is built to last, ensuring years of exceptional grilling performance.

The first time, you have to burn the smoker clean. This way, you burn off the leftovers of dirt and grease that may have been left behind during manufacturing. After that, you let the Masterbuilt cool down, and you can get started. After lighting, you are at 140 degrees (284F) in ten to fifteen minutes. If you want to grill, because that is also possible, it takes 10 minutes longer. In no time, the Masterbuilt is roaring at 350 degrees (660F). Masterbuilt wisely included a self-sealing probe port to run your thermometer probe(s) directly into the cook chamber instead of pinching them under the lid.

560 Elite Mod Package

Some storage and prep areas are provided with the Masterbuilt 560, but it’s about average. What I like While assembling a grill, I spend more time inspecting for poor manufacturing or material handling than most, but I didn’t see any with the Gravity 560. Masterbuilt has blazed a new trail with their Gravity Series 560 Digital Charcoal Grill + Smoker. A one-of-a-kind machine, the Gravity Series marries the ease of thermostatic control (as in your home oven or pellet smoker) with the smoky flavor you expect from cooking with charcoal and wood chunks. You can connect this cooker to your smart device via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi for remote monitoring and control, or ignore that technology altogether since it’s not required for operation. We haven’t seen anything quite like the Gravity Series, and we want to love it despite its flaws! Pellet grills have been all the rage for the past 5-10 years in the outdoor cooking market. It seems like everyone has one now, and even Weber has recently joined the pellet grill game with their new SmokeFire pellet cooker. You have a digital control panel that lets you set your exact temperature between 225 – 700°F. The control panel connects to an app for remote control. The digital control panel includes room for up to four meat probes.

This charcoal grill smoker is designed to smoke low and slow, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. With a cooking temperature as high as 700°, it can easily grill and sear. Cleaning out the ash tray after every cook will inevitably help keep your tray from rusting out. It’s a simple process to pull the tray and empty, but make sure to do it when all of the coals and ashes are cold. It’s recommended to put the ash in aluminum foil and pour a bit of water on them before placing in a waste bin. Safety first, right? WIFI & Bluetooth:Personally, I keep an eye on my firebox, and if there looks to be damage, I will get it covered under warranty. I feel like the SS inserts are not worth the cost, especially if they are failing too per user reports. The reports still seem to indicate this is a very unit specific issue, in my view, depending on user usage, temps, and burn times, and not necessarily a widespread problem. Again, with MB stepping up to fix legitimate issues, it doesn't seem like the issue is particularly major. We might note here: While we appreciate and admire the novel design, it’s not necessary to understand how or why it works. Because if you follow the instructions, it will work—as we learned.
