About this deal

This is scriptural language. There are only two classes of people. This has always been the case, and however respectable, refined or educated we may be it is still true that we are either saved or lost –- look up and compare Luke 15:4,24; 19:10; 2 Corinthians 4:3; Mark 16:16; John 10:9; Acts 15:11; 16:30-31; Romans 5:9; 10:9-10; Ephesians 2:8. “”Where are you?”” –- you are either saved or lost, because there is no “in-between position” –- but thank God you can be saved. Jesus responded to Mary differently than he did to Martha. He did so out of love and concern for Mary. God’s next question is very direct, “Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?” Adam blames his wife and implicitly blames God for giving her to him. But then he weakly admits his disobedience, “and I ate” (3:12). That God’s seeking was gracious is seen in the manner He came looking. He could have come down in anger, yelling, “Adam, front and center for your court martial and execution!” He could have come with a lecture: “Adam, you’ve blown it badly. How could you do this to Me, after all I’ve done for you? How many times did I tell you not to eat that fruit? How could anyone could be so stupid!” We say, I will praise God even in His perceived absence. I will praise God for who He is, not just for what He’s done. I love the giver of the gift more than the gift itself. My faith is not a “What have you done for me lately?” faith. My faith is an unshakable faith in my Savior & my God. Even when God seems far away, He’s always near.

Where Are You? (Genesis 3:7-15) | Bible.org Lesson 9: Where Are You? (Genesis 3:7-15) | Bible.org

This event is a foreshadowing of what happened to Jesus during his resurrection, and what will happen with all of us who place our faith and hope in Jesus: to be raised by the power of God from the curse of sin and spiritual death. This is resurrection hope. Going from a life of hopelessness and sorrow to having joy and a deeper spiritual knowledge in Christ the Lord.

Jesus Christ told His followers these comforting words: "Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Therefore do not fear; you are of more value than many sparrows." 7 If you truly turn to God, He will care for you as no one else does, and in a way that no one else can. God and Our Free Will

It is in the story of Lazarus being raised from the dead that we learn God has a plan and purpose that is far beyond what we know, see, or desire in the present. A plan and purpose to reveal his power and glory, that provides opportunity of hope and faith and that leads to a deeper spiritual understanding in Christ the Lord. Right from childhood, we are taught that God is kind, He is all-forgiving and He loves us immensely; God is Almighty, He is always there to protect us and He is our saviour. The stone needed to be removed for the miracle and power of God to be witnessed by Martha, Mary and the crowd that had gathered. Listen, the stone could not have prevented the miracle. The power of God is greater than any obstacle, even that of a heavy stone. The serpent is cursed to crawl on its belly and eat dust. As Donald Barnhouse explains, “To eat dust is to know defeat, and that is God’s prophetic judgment upon the enemy.... There will be continuous aspiration, but never any attainment” ( Genesis: A Dev o tional Exposition [Zondervan], p. 22). The serpent was literally condemned to crawl on its belly, which I understand to mean that before the curse, it did not do so. (Some commentators say that it did, but that now God attaches new significance to that fact.) When Adam sinned, he became lost with reference to God. All Adam’s descendents are born in that condition: lost. Before you can be reconciled to God, you’ve got to answer for yourself the question God asked Adam: Where are you? The answer is, “God, I’m lost.” Before God can save you, you’ve got to admit to Him that you are lost. When you feel alone and as if no one cares … go to the One who has promised to be Your constant Companion and your very best Friend. When they sinned their conscience was activated. God’s question zeroes in on this, “Who told you that you were naked?” (3:11). The fact that Adam now knew he was naked showed that he had a conscience, which he got from eating of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

The power of God brings life to the dead. Call out to Jesus in faith. Open your heart, remove the stone and allow resurrection hope. Allow Jesus, the resurrected savior, to speak life and faith where deadness, hopelessness, sorrow, and unforgiveness, resides. Jesus reminds Martha, and us today, that faith is the key to resurrection hope. Faith to remove the stone. It is only by faith that we will see and experience the glory of God and forgiveness of sin. The miracle of Lazarus’ healing is only by the power and presence of Jesus. When something difficult happens, it’s easy to wonder, “Where are You, God?” And His answer is always the same: “I’m with you.” Sometimes He makes His presence known through the hands and feet of people in our lives. Sometimes He quietly whispers to our hearts. Sometimes He works through circumstances to let us know we’re not alone. When your heart is broken, the Lord’s heart is also broken. Jesus knows personally of your pain and sorrow. Jesus felt the sorrow that both Mary and Martha were experiencing regarding the loss of their brother. Jesus wept as well.

So come, let us try and get the right answer to our query – ‘God where are you, when I need you?’

We put our trust in the fact that God does not lie, He never changes, and His Word stands true forever (Numbers 23:19; 1 Samuel 15:29; Psalm 110:4; Malachi 3:6; Hebrews 7:21; 13:8, James 1:17; 1 Peter 1:25). We do not lose heart over painful circumstances because we live by faith in every word that has proceeded from the mouth of God, not putting our hope in what is seen or perceived. We trust God that our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs all the suffering that we will endure on this earth. So, we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, because we know and believe that what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal (2 Corinthians 4:16-18; 5:7). We also trust God’s Word, which says He is constantly working things together for the good of those who love Him and have been called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28). Even though we do not always see the good ends to which God is working things out, we can be assured that a time will come when we will understand and see more clearly. There are only two destinies. Jesus Himself said so. It is illogical for us to speak glowingly about heaven and to turn away from all the solemn warnings in scripture about the danger and certainty of hell for the unbeliever. If you were to die tonight where would you go –- to heaven or hell? Studies in this series: Oh, there You are Lord. I found You! Right there in Mom’s name. Yes, Elizabeth. God is satisfaction.
