About this deal

a very enjoyable Glenlivet. The high ABV is a good start, and the flavours are well integrated, and quite spicy and racy. It’s not your everyday dram (for that you could go with the 12 year old), but sure is a well made dram. Whiskybase B.V. (“Whiskybase”, “we” or “us”, company details below) offers a whisky enthusiasts online platform that provides its members access to the most comprehensive, transparent and trusted resource of whisky bottles and allows and stimulates its members to contribute information about whisky bottles to the platform (“Service”). Strong cheeses: Aged cheddar, blue cheese, or even smoked gouda can stand up to the rich flavors of Glenlivet Nadurra Oloroso, making them great pairings for this cask strength whisky. At full strength with small sips, this is an incredible and notable whisky. I almost always prefer cask strength bottlings with at least some water added. In this case, adding water does smooth it out and is still okay, but also significantly diminishes the experience. The Glenlivet distillery is a distillery near Ballindalloch in Moray, Scotland that produces single malt Scotch whisky. It is the oldest legal distillery in Scotland. It was founded in 1824 and has operated almost continuously since. [1] The distillery remained open throughout the Great Depression and its only closure came during World War II. The Glenlivet distillery has grown in the post-war period to become one of the biggest single malt distilleries. The Glenlivet brand is the biggest selling single malt whisky in the United States and the second biggest selling single malt brand globally [2] after Glenfiddich.

The classic 12 is lighter and more apple-juicy than the Founder’s Reserve, which has replaced the 12 on shelves internationally. I like the Founder’s more. Additionally, I like the 18 more than the 21. Even though drammers in the know swoon over the 15 French Oak, and even though I’m always happy to see it in someone’s collection, I can’t say it puts the wind in my kazoo. Nose: Very clean. The malt really comes through. Cereal, honey sweetness, vanilla. Lots of honey and vanilla. Some chocolate, coffee beans. Balanced, nothing overpowering. Seems to me like the casks were not that active which has let the underlying spirit really shine, although bourbon notes do come through vividly and softly. Not hot at all. People who drink bourbon would love this. The more I nose it, the more bourbon I smell. Kilgore-Marchetti, Nino (21 September 2022). "The Glenlivet Considers Space-Travelling Barley Seeds". The Whiskey Wash . Retrieved 4 January 2023. Oloroso Old Fashioned: Muddle a sugar cube, a few dashes of Angostura bitters, and a splash of water in a glass. Add ice and Glenlivet Nadurra Oloroso, then stir. Garnish with an orange twist.

Whisky reviews for Glenlivet Nàdurra

Glenlivet, the kind of whisky you get on an airplane if you ask for scotch, isn’t generally thought of as a connoisseur’s whisky. Like the Budweiser of single-malt, its standard 12-year expression is mild, watery, and (above all) cheap. That’s not to say it’s all bad – I like keeping a bottle of it around for nights when I don’t feel like an expensive or complicated dram. I particularly enjoy the house characteristic green apple note. The last Nadurra they made had a short life. They stopped making The Nadurra 16 in 2014. Even before I knew they were 86-ing it, it was my favorite TGL. Not because it had an age statement, not because it had no chill filtration, or had never been pigmented, but because of the excellent taste! Taking everything into account, I would rate the Glenlivet Nadurra Oloroso a solid 7.5/10. It has a great balance of flavors without being too overpowering, and the sherry casks impart a delightful complexity. It’s a whisky I could enjoy every day, and one that I’d recommend to others who are fans of Speyside whiskies.

On the nose, one is immediately overwhelmed with honey sweetness. Whoa! Setting it down for just a minute, I took another scent. Banana, vanilla, butterscotch and some almond are there. The scents are truly mouthwatering. And they open up a bit more after letting it sit for a couple minutes.I cant finish this Glenlivet without a wee video featuring Tony Soprano. The coolest Gangster ever to show up on TV, doing his ‘you think i’m still the kid on the bus’ routine . Given the rich, sweet, and spicy profile of Glenlivet Nadurra Oloroso, there are several food options that can enhance and complement its flavors: Palate: Similar to the nose, the palate starts off hot when sipped neat. But once past the unpleasant alcohol burn, there’s an explosion of sherry goodness. It’s a light and bright sherry, rather than a dark and brooding sherry like you find in Glendronach or some Aberlours. If sherry can be zesty, this is an example. It features a medium sweetness, with notes of maple syrup, molasses, fig, walnut and plum. The brightness does make it more savory than a traditional sherry bomb, an interesting twist for a whisky that was aged exclusively in Oloroso casks. The mouthfeel while neat isn’t amazing, with more youth and grains coming through, leading to a thinner mouthfeel than I was expecting. Balance: This is a very nice sample of Glenlivet Nadurra. The sweet and dry balance is very good, and the alcohol is not overpowering to experience. I have had other samples of Nadurra I didn't like as well. I expect that there might be great variability and lesser coherence in flavours when the Nadurra starts to oxidise. I prefer this without waterNose : Fragrant and vibrant, lots of vanilla, wood spice, and floral notes, on top of some honey and toasted oak and ripe bananas, from the 1st fill American oak casks used.
