About this deal

This book is a great introduction to a practice called "mindfulness" applied to golf. Mindfulness is very similar to meditation, which is a more common phrase thrown around these days. When you read Dr. Parent's book, you will begin to understand how to manage your emotions, and play your best golf. Response- Often an overlooked part of the game, but your reaction to hitting a ball in a pond is critical to developing confidence in golf. Do you get mad, emotionally attached, or fed up with your game when the ball goes in the water? Well, you might need to read this section. We worked on curving the ball both ways off the tee and letting Luke demonstrate his intention through his movement in his practice swings and me guessing what shape he was intending to play! I really enjoyed Zen Golf because of its practical mental tips, its enjoyable stories, and its ability to make you see a different perspective. Next time you’re on the course, I’d like you think about how you feel and what you are focusing on from the time you start walking into the ball until you hit it. Training yourself to get better at keeping the mind quiet will help you make a better swing. Meditation is one technique that will not only help with this, but it will improve your stress management and focus in general. You’ll be more in the moment, and playing Zen Golf.

There's a big difference as one method is restrictive and inhibiting of a functional sequence and the other method is free flowing, more in alignment with an effortless, powerful and repeatable kinetic sequence. We recently had the pleasure of hosting an amazing GRF Golf school @ The Golf Groove in London. We had 18 amazing students from all over the world and we saw some amazing changes in all. This is Badr who gained over 30 yards and was hitting an amazing draw from a big fade. What I love about all the mental game techniques I use in my coaching, is that they not only lower scores, but if practiced daily, can help in overall happiness and productivity. Have you ever been on the tee box of a tight driving hole, worried about the o.b. right and the water left? If you said no to this, I would love to get your autograph and sign as your tour agent. If you are human, this type of thought will always have the potential to surface during a round of golf. Dr. Parent does a great job giving you thoughts and exercises that will help to tame these intrusive thoughts. Place your attention on where the swing takes you to (FINISH) and let your swing self-organise through reverse engineering your swing. Another important reason to meditate is that it’s been shown to lower activity in the amygdala, which is the part of the brain used for processing negative emotions. The amygdala uses cognitive information from the brain to determine the level of stress and danger in your environment. If it’s high enough it sends signals to the body to prepare for the “fight or flight” stress response, which if you’ve experienced choking, makes it becomes harder to think clearly and control your movement. Meditation is thought to shrink the amygdala and hence lower your stress response. Losing the ego

This burst of alpha waves is what balances the brain to create the peak performance state – when this happens, you are completely present, more aware, more trusting and more focused. It’s the optimal state for learning and the optimal state for sports performance. Well if you've been used to swinging with an early release and you start to release the golf club later then all of a sudden you might find yourself losing shots to the right or flipping to the left (inverse for the left handed golfer). A highly original and groundbreaking book from a noted PGA coach and Buddhist instructor •“The lessons in Zen Golf make the mental game seem so simple. Dr. Parent has given me very effective methods for working with thoughts and emotions, and for taking the negatives out of the picture.”—Vijay Singh, Masters and PGA Champion So rather than trying to tell your body how to stand to the golf ball or what posture to assume, let your body tell you how IT wants to balance. amentals. This process elicits a much deeper understanding on a somatosensory level which invokes a sense of competence and more importantly confidence. For lesson bookings please follow this link....

An exciting opportunity has arisen to run 2 x 1 day golf schools in Holland at my good friend and GRFi Ambassador Jonathan Willis' Golf Academy at Grevelingenhout Golf Club. For me, it is one of the best golf books I have encountered. Let's not stop there.... Zen Golf: Mastering the Mental Game is a great business book.... well... life book. First, it is the best aide I have experienced for teaching business owners/executives on how to create and execute vision. Second, every exercise and practice offered by Dr. Parent is at its core focused on increasing awareness, setting intention and follow through, all foundational approaches, in which I believe and use. Here at Sinclair Golf we installed a 20x8ft Zen Green Stage along with PuttView in our new Putting Bay earlier this summer. It is fantastic! The putting surface is the best I have ever seen. The ability to change the green and give the client the experience of any putt they may face on the golf course is key. The double breaks make this green stand out over others we looked at. There is no issue with standing on the green with my clients and it moves quietly and seamlessly. It has been hard to get the clients to want to work on their swings! Over the past few years, I’ve been practicing meditation. Zen Meditation has been used for thousands of years by Buddhist monks, but more and more people are taking it up each year as a way to reduce day to day stress and feel happier. We finished the on course session off by sharpen his short game skills. Luke had lots of excessive tension in his arms, preventing him to fully use the momentum of the club head to transfer energy.

They will run in 3 weeks time on Tuesday 19th and Wednesday 20th September and will be a deep dive into your game.

Success!

Please follow the link to book and I hope to see you at one of our schools to help you with your game. They will be small group coaching days limited to just 4 players per day to ensure quality personal 1-2-1 with myself supported by Jonathan. A Different Perspective- This section of the book will take you through various topics about how your attitude and perspective sets you up for success or failure before you ever step foot on a golf course. This first part is more about you as a person, and how well you fare in the areas of learning, open-mindedness, criticism, confidence, and awareness of thoughts. Even if you are not a golfer, this part of Dr. Parent's book could greatly impact how successful you are in life. In my opinion, the first part is an extension of the author's studies with meditation and mindfulness. When alpha oscillations are prominent, your sensory inputs tend to be minimized and your mind is generally clear of unwanted thoughts. When your brain shifts gears to focus on a specific thought—in either a positive or negative way—alpha oscillations tend to disappear and higher frequency oscillations begin running the show.” – Christopher Bergland, The Athlete’s Way
