About this deal

The flowers pictured here—freesia, Queen Anne’s lace, cowslip, and oleander—symbolize grace in Western culture. The apple signifies the fall of man, separation from the Creator, and, ultimately, the need for redemption.

The ESV Illuminated Bible places the full ESV text alongside over 500 elegantly hand-lettered gold ink illustrations by renowned artist Dana Tanamachi, encouraging readers to 'light up' the words of Scripture by adding their own artwork and colour to each page. This is only distracting when it is the full page art at the beginning of the chapter as it is visible through the text on the opposite page when it is turned over it. My walk with the Lord and my ministry have been enriched and blessed through this wonderful translation. Pictured here are the lilies, rose of Sharon, precious dove, wine grapes, and pomegranates used in the poetry of Solomon to describe two lovers and their physical relationship throughout courtship, engagement, and marriage. The 103 third parties who use cookies on this service do so for their purposes of displaying and measuring personalized ads, generating audience insights, and developing and improving products. The message of this short book is the power of the gospel to change lives, turning uselessness into purpose (verse 11). This is the story of Nehemiah, the Persian king’s cupbearer, who played an important role as adviser.

Aaron’s staff, pictured with almond buds and blossoms, signifies that he was chosen by the Lord to help guide his people toward Canaan. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. The practice of illumination (or adding decoration to manuscripts) dates back to the early fifth century and continued into the Middle Ages, when scribes, monks, and other artists used richly colored pigments as well as gold and silver leaf to add decoration, initials, and illustration to the pages of books and Bibles. This paper should stand up to any art supplies or pens that work with a typical journaling Bible and a few extra as well. Printed on thick, cream-colored paper, the Bible’s single-column text setting and wide margins provide generous space for additional notes, prayers, and designs—inviting readers to creatively engage with and reflect on the beauty of God’s Word.Imagine a monk in an abbey some place in Europe, bent over a page of vellum, (animal skin) using a quill, a dip pen, different colored inks, along with gold leaf, to decorate the page of a hand copied Bible. The verses are meant to act as ebenezers—landmarks of God’s faithfulness to creation, reminders of his salvific plan, and signposts to his abiding commitment to display his glory in all the earth. The artwork here represents Job’s story of suffering and trial, as he lost all of the good things he had received from the hand of God. Warnings of impending destruction fill this book, as the prophet Zephaniah declares God’s intent to punish the wicked nation of Judah for their sin and rebellion by sweeping them away—represented here by the wind and clouds in chapter 1. Amidst descriptions of destruction, the promise of the Lord to the prophet Jeremiah is hopeful, as God declares to Jeremiah that he has appointed him as prophet “to destroy and to overthrow” but also “to build and to plant” (1:10).

The practice of illumination—adding decoration to book manuscripts—dates back to the early fifth century. Dana Tanamachi is an American lettering artist, graphic designer, and illustrator whose exquisite typographic murals ignited the worldwide chalk-lettering trend. The locusts illustrated here are reflective of the plague the Lord sent on Israel as a sign of his anger and judgment for their sin and continued unfaithfulness. The included illustration index provides helpful insight as to where the artist drew inspiration for the artwork.

With all of the bold lines in the art the paper can’t stop it from showing through from the other side. A recurrent theme in these three short books is light and the command to “abide” or remain in the light of the gospel, as illustrated here by shining beams. Vineyard Churches UK and Ireland is a Charitable Company limited by guarantee registered in England and Wales under Company No. The wings pictured here point to God’s promises in 1:11 to make his name great from the rising of the sun to its setting. The fireflies illustrated here reference Paul’s charge to the Philippians (in 2:15) to do all things without grumbling so that they might shine amidst the darkness around them by bringing the light of the gospel of Christ.
