About this deal

Stamelman, Richard Howard (2006). Perfume: Joy, Obsession, Scandal, Sin: a cultural history of fragrance from 1750 to the present. Rizzoli. p.219. ISBN 0-8478-2832-8. Plans are abandoned for 'something new'. A very millennial approach. Not all customers are Millenials. We don't all want syrupy, synthetic fruitichoulis everyday of the week. We even mourn Chanel with their insipidly weak formulations now. The base is still floral, but softer, it reminds me a lot of the smell of white lilies. I don't think it's powdery, it has nothing to do with Chanel No. 5, despite it being just as classy.

Elegance is simplicity. Joy is elegance in a bottle. For all complexity of the formula, which arrived sealed and perfectly preserved, this is a stunning jasmine simply warmed by the real civet and musks inside. It’s not dirty, it’s not extravagant in a more contemporary way (think 70’s/80’s stunners); it’s simply beautiful. In my Joy EDP (the bad one, the one nobody wants) I like the aldehydes and the way the metallic adjacent not-rose flowers coat the rose and its vibrations. Kerleo stepped down in 1999 [6] appointing Jean-Michel Duriez as house perfumer. Duriez creations include "Un Amour de Patou" (1998), "Enjoy" (2003) and "Sira des Indes" (2006). Jean Patou is a prestigious, historic luxury brand. "The costliest perfume in the world": Jean Patou himself already did the work for you! (ie. brand equity, market positioning). For the informed, Jean Patou stands up there with Chanel. Christian Dior was there too. Around when 'Christian Dior' rebranded to 'Dior', it adopted a mass marketing strategy. All good, but that left a gap in the LVMH prestige brand offerings. (Which seems to be partially filled by brand Exclusifs now.)

JOY is created of rare flowers in unique concentration of 10600 flowers of jasmine and 28 dozens of roses which adorn the exceptional heart of this perfume. With the time JOY attains enormous success and became the second best selling perfume of all times (the first best-selling is the legendary Chanel N°5). Middle notes : At the heart of the fragrance lies Camellia, Geranium, Lily, Rose, Jasmine, Coriander, Lily-of-the-Valley, Iris and Ylang-Ylang

I have always been fasciated by the past and I have always enjoyed reading about periods of history.JOY was created with a lot of care, just like the most expensive Haute-Cotture dress, and thus it was extraordinary and timeless. It was presented by Jean Patou as \'the world\'s most expensive perfume\' right at the time of The Great Depression in 1929, when the market of luxury fashion crushed and Jean Patou\'s house could survive only through the perfumes. Edit: I have now worn Joy twice. It's a jasmine bomb on me. I'm having a hard time finding other notes in this right away. After about an hour, it really quiets down. By then, it gets pretty powdery, and the jasmine all but disappears and Joy becomes pretty much a skin scent and I can barely detect it for the rest of the day. I have to respray it over again. The JOY I have is the modern Eau de Parfum version, the last iteration produced: and even with the reformulations, it still has a huge impact on me.
