All of these applications require that the design load of the structure meet the deflection requirement of L/360. Whether you’ve just bought a new floor, or you’re replacing your existing one, it’s important to choose the right underlay to go with it. An effective underlay will provide thermal insulation, increase the comfort of your floor and reduce the amount of noise from footfall. Other products within the scope of this category are allowed to cure or are applied as sheet goods and are then used as the substrate for the tile. Pro Tip: The seams where two membranes meet should be sealed only with the tape or sealant recommended by the manufacturer. Not all sealants are compatible with all brands of membranes. Depending on the manufacturer’s recommendations, they may be mixed with potable water or a latex admixture. If using a latex additive, it is always wise to use the product provided by the manufacturer. Ensure your subfloor is completely level. You don’t want your newly laid floor to have any unsightly dents! Poured gypsum underlayments can solve subfloor issues such as out of flat and out of level, but they need to be installed per the manufacturer’s guidelines.
