About this deal

liz is a hopeless romantic, everything that happens in her life — she compares it to a movie, a romcom. she seeks that picture perfect love story but sometimes she is chasing something that isn’t really worth it. i had my problems with liz in the beginning, but she definitely grew on me. while i was mad at her for lying to her best friend, i kind of understood where it was coming from and as we follow her through her story, we see her growth and development.

Liz's internal denial of her feelings was hilarious, and it just had me shouting at the book, telling her to just kiss him already! i'm actually scared of her because she's 15 in 1. a liar, a hater, delusional, dumb, slow, oblivious, etc. My first problem with this book was that Liz, the main character, was absolutely infuriating. The writing read like it was a not-like-other-grills YA contemporary romance from 2010, which, honestly, except for the year, is exactly what this book is. Wes was the good guy in the movie. Yes, he was funny and the life of the party, but he was also dependable and understanding and loyal. Even though I realized after prom that I didn’t need him to be, he was a Mark Darcy. Sometimes we get so tied up in our idea of what we think we want that we miss out on the amazingness of what we could actually have.”helena. sorry, i just had to include a little section for the magical stepmom. a blond lorelai gilmore? i will be moving in to her home shortly, thank you very much!! 🫡🫡 the feeling of missing a loved one is hard to portray, especially in a ya book, but her grief and stubborness to not miss any key moments with her mom.. going prom shopping, buying makeup and clothing together, getting coffee at a cute cafe, watching a sappy movie, it just made me feel thankful for the fact that i got to live those moments with my mum. i'm sorry and sending love to anyone who didn't get to experience that feeling <33

In the beginning I was fine with Liz but over the course of the book she couldn’t stop lying to her best friend. At first she felt bad, but after the first time, she just continued lying with ease. This book was also funny too: a lot of the lines made me laugh, and though it could be cheesy, cringey, and cliche, isn't that what you want out of a rom-com? i had mixed feelings about liz. she is a strong, independent woman who knew she shouldn’t change for a man. however, she was still willing to do it to get what she thought was her happily ever after by chasing michael. one thing you should know abt me is that i am a hard core feminist. and i strongly believe that u should not go after a man and change yourself just to get him to like you. she made me mad at times when she wanted to hurt the people around her since she was so hurt. she also acted like the “quirky main character” and i found her to be so annoying at times. idk how ppl can stand her bc she was the most infuriating fmc i have ever read abt. Ever since her mother died when she was young, Liz has been obsessed with rom-coms and finding her movie-worthy happily-ever-after. Enter Michael, the neighborhood boy she was (and still is??) in love with when she was literally in kindergarten, and Wes, the infuriating boy-next-door. One of them is going to help her get the other. You know where I'm going with this.

i loved liz’s dad and her stepmom helena ! i honestly wasn’t a big fan of joss (liz’s best friend) she was pushing liz a little too much (imo). michael was kinda pathetic, and i’m so glad he wasn’t the mc. i loved noah and adam (wes’ friends). These are the lies I don’t understand. Liz could have just said she was invited to a party instead of lying because now her best friend feels like absolute shit.Specifically, all of her gushing over Michael was just not it. I was disgusted and cringing every five minutes, to the point where I had to pause the audiobook and do history homework to attempt to burn the scenes from my mind multiple times. It was not fun, to say the least. The truth was, I liked talking about my mom. Bringing her up in casual conversation—putting words about her out into the universe—felt like keeping a piece of her here with me, even though she had been gone so long already.”

I fell in love with teasing you in the second grade, when I first discovered that I could turn your cheeks pink with just a word. Then I fell in love with you.” This book was basically everything I wanted: A book about rom-coms (there were quotes from rom-coms at the beginning of each chapter !!), an ENEMIES TO LOVERS, FAKE DATING, sooo much denial, and drama, drama, DRAMA. That being said, the audiobook was actually quite good. I think I would have jumped out a window if I was actually reading this book in text format, but somehow, the audiobooks narrator's ability was enough to keep me from taking such drastic methods of escape. The narrator was magically able to keep me at least somewhat interested in the happenings of the book, and their voice is one of the two saving graces of my reading experience. wes bennett:he's the standard. he's so caring, so gentle, so accepting of liz and all her weird quirks. he also does have a personality outside of being the main love interest, and i love that. he's just as weird as liz, and compliments her so well. the minute he said " pretty is just a visual"he made a permanent home for himself in my heart. i love him so much, he can do no wrong in my eyes. Don’t act like I’m weird. Your normal cologne is kind of, like, piney, but tonight you smell more… I don’t know… spicy.”Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have issues when characters lie in books but at some point I think to myself “will this character ever experience consequences and will she learn?” Total random curiosity. Your house is outside my window, and I just realized that I’ve never been upstairs, so I have no idea what side your room is on.” Trust me when I tell you that sometimes the person with the most ‘magical night possibility’ is the last person you’d expect. Sometimes there can be someone you’ve known forever, yet never really noticed.” Recommend to everyone!! Especially fans of Tweet Cute! (not to be that person, but this reminded me of it) This is considered a YA romance, characters are in their final year of high school, the events are set a few days before prom (15 if I’m correct). It’s very clean, our main couple shares a kiss or two. BUT, your needs will be satisfied. It’s all cute all fluff, the banter between Liz and Wes is written so well. The book is extremely funny, had me highlighting these little corny jokes (I laughed at them).
