About this deal

From our experience, all waterproof boots with GTX lose a part of their breathability, and this model isn’t an exception. We will probably write an in-depth review about them in the following months. Hopefully, the issues will have been resolved by then. Conclusion Attractive style and design, visually appealing unlike competitors such as the Merrell Moab 2 Mid GTX or KEEN Targhee III Mid Waterproof for example.

While waterproof as well, it doesn’t feature the GTX membrane, so its waterproofing is considered less reliable. As we walked in the wide version of these Gore-Tex boots on the Bryce Canyon’s Rim Trail, they proved supportive, and there were only a few sections of the path where they struggled to maintain traction. The most significant structural change is the new ADV Chassis, which according to Salomon “maintains the stability, control, and protection in the heel while cutting weight.” The shoe is lighter (by 0.5 ounces), but I can’t yet verify if this is a game-changing feature, marketing hype, or (probably) something in between.

For especially technical terrain or carrying a heavy load, we’d recommend stepping up to a taller, sturdier, more protective boot like Salomon’s own Quest 4D 3 GTX. However, if you have flat feet or high arches, you may need to add an additional insole for more support. How It Evolved? One thing I noticed about the waterproofing is that you must make sure the boots are properly laced and tightened. If the boots are too loose, water can seep in from the top, and it will take a lot of time to get the boots dry again. 7. Support

With an impressive balance of comfort, weight, and durability, Salomon's signature hiking boot is one of the most well-rounded designs on the market

Additionally, the Moab 2 Mid WP’s Vibram outsole is made from a more rigid and durable compound and has deeper lugs, so this model is a better choice for muddy roads. Both boots come with the GTX membrane and a reasonable price, which turns them into some of the best hiking boots for women for regular hiking and trekking. How Does It Compare with Other Products? 1. Merrell Moab 2 Mid WP Both boot models are waterproof, but the Targhee III Mid Waterproof uses the patented Keen.Dry system. While the GTX is more popular, we noticed no important differences regarding the water resistance level. In the case of the X Ultra 3, the regular width shoe is much too tight, and while the Wide model is somewhat better, it is also much too snug, to the point of still being uncomfortable. Also, the skin covering the Achilles on my left foot was rubbed raw after just a few miles. Don’t be surprised if the recommended size for your feet runs narrow. This is what we found out ourselves and what many others realize once they put on the Salomon X Ultra 3 Mid GTX. What’s more, the lovers of shoes with ample toe box might be disappointed – the toe box of the ‘regular’ is narrower and more restrictive than the average width. The toe box of the ‘wide’ is more spacious and fits better for someone with average-width feet.
