About this deal

The image quality always appears to be a pretty low resolution. I have a strong home Wi-Fi connection, and I have never been impressed with the video quality. The Owlet App allows you to connect to and stream your Owlet products from anywhere. You can also view the history of your child’s sleep patterns, oxygen level, and heart rate. Owlet’s mission since day one has been to provide “ better care for babies in the home by empowering parents with the right information at the right time.” The good part is you can set the sensitivity level. It even tells you the temperature of the room and if it’s ok for baby. The Owlet Monitor Duo’s thresholds are preset and are not adjustable. Please remember it is not a medical device and intended for use to provide peace of mind to parents.

This camera will currently only work on a 2.4GHz network so be sure you have that available and not only a 5GHz connection, or a dual-band router. This cam is currently not compatible with a 5GHz network. That said, I spent a lot of time with my ISP trying to set up a dedicated 2.4GHz network separately from my main network (which is dual-band). To make matters worse, this information is not printed on the outside of the retail box anywhere, so the setup frustration was magnified because of this. I would definitely recommend this for new parents all the way up to older kids, the feature set built in and the fun facts in the app ensure that you will be able to continue using the Owlet Cam 2 well beyond their toddler years! That being said, Owlet has proved helpful for many, especially those who have needed to monitor their baby for health reasons.See Baby clearly with 1080p HD video, 4x zoom, wide-angle view & night vision. See what’s happening in Baby’s room, day or night, to better understand their behavior and stay informed of their needs. In addition to the Google Nest Cam I used during his first few weeks of life, I’ve tested three other video monitors so far: the Nanit Pro, the Motorola PIP1510 Connect, and — the focus of this review — the Owlet Dream Duo with Cam 2. (A few more are waiting in the wings, including the Babysense Split Screen and the Infant Optics DXR-8 PRO.) The Owlet Cam allows you to stream video and sound from your nursery or anywhere via the Owlet App available on iOS and Android devices. This camera provides crystal clear 1080p video with a 130-degree wide-angle lens and 4x digital zoom and this updated version provides motion sensor notifications through the app. In addition, it is equipped with night vision, which offers quality vision even when light is low. For these mums, malfunctioning devices got in the way of a sound sleep. One shared, “ It constantly disconnects from the base station. My baby is an active sleeper and that may be why.”

Good quality in the app creation. The app notifies for movement and sound, we can be a lot for a fussy baby. Hoping that they can update this (out of box) to be compatible with a firmware update to save some people a lot of time and effort.

Gain Insight with Cry Notifications

We really like this wifi baby monitor. You can’t go wrong with this baby monitor, trust me. All in all great product. Preference is a cloud based video log for the ability to review video with the alerts vs. only the live feed option. The camera is very clear and can be zoomed in when on the app. Depending on the lightening and how far you zoom with determine the video quality.

Watch video clips with sound, motion & cry notifications. Learn Baby’s subtle cues & behavior patterns by watching video clips that capture their behavior before they cry, wiggle, or fuss. The cord protectors are very important for safety. That is very intuitive for setup and thinking ahead so that lose cords don’t get tied up or prevent a hazard for the baby. The Owlet measures your baby’s oxygen levels, so if your baby stops breathing, you will be alerted. This is especially important if your baby is prone to spells of sleep apnea. When should you stop using the Owlet? It has been recommended that babies who are at high risk for SIDS should sleep in the same room as the parents. Does the Owlet cam record?I could get to the point of setup where you need to scan a QR code, but that was where it ends. I couldn’t go any further because my router is dual-band and uses both 2.4 and 5GHz networks. Once you get to the point where you need to scan the QR code in setup, you are supposed to hear a “chime” to move forward. This chime never becomes audible, therefore I cannot get this camera to work properly with my home wifi system. From the app, you have the ability to control which sound and motion notifications, if any, you want to receive. In addition to opting in or out of notifications — which you can do individually for cry detection, sound detection, motion detection, and room comfort — you can adjust the sensitivity level and time between notifications. You can also opt in on 30-second video recordings of each sound and motion detection, though the videos that result often come out too spotty to be useful.
