Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful lead. Floor Sanding: For even appearance, prepare the floor by using an industrial drum sander and edge sander, available from a local hire shop. Always sand in the direction of the grain. A belt sander or orbital sander can be used for smaller areas. Remove all dust from floor and surrounding areas using suitable vacuum equipment. Wood stains or dyes may be used prior to applying Dulux Diamond Glaze Varnish. It is recommended that a water-based stain be used

Coated surfaces in poor condition: Where the existing coating is defective it must be completely removed and the surface prepared as described for new or bare wood above. We will be happy to organise an exchange for the correct goods at no extra charge to yourself, please get in touch to organise this. Faulty ItemsHours - This will vary according to temperature and humidity and will take significantly longer in cold, damp conditions. After degreasing the wood, we often recommend application of very thin oils such as Osmo Wood Wax Finish Extra Thin 1101 which are especially designed for wood types such as iroko to penetrate into the grain and protect the wood without adhesion issues. Test areas also help ascertain the absorption of the product. New or bare wood should be sanded in the direction of the wood grain to remove any surface imperfections After cleaning or stripping a test area, place a drop of water on the bare wood - if it forms a bead, wax is still present and Diamond Glaze should not be used without thorough preparation. If the water disperses, carry out the application/adhesion tests above before proceeding with cleaning, stripping and priming. Where the existing coating is defective it must be completely removed and the surface prepared as described for new or bare wood above.

Seal new or bare wood by applying one coat of Diamond Glaze Clear Varnish to help reduce variations in absorbency, which can lead to differences in colour and sheen A. Diamond Glaze is known for its exceptional durability and resistance to wear and tear. It provides a tough, protective coating that helps to extend the lifespan of the surfaces it is applied to. This makes it particularly suitable for high-traffic areas or surfaces that are prone to frequent use and abrasion. The varnish has excellent scratch and stain resistance properties, making it ideal for surfaces that require added protection. It helps to prevent scratches, scuffs, and stains, which can be particularly beneficial for wooden floors, furniture, and other surfaces that are susceptible to damage.Whilst the he Dulux Diamon Glaze varnish is a very popular product, Iroko tends to be naturally high in oil which in turn can cause adhesion issues if varnishes are applied. We recommend to degrease the wood with methylated spirits to allow varnish to adhere or oil to absorb. Additionally, if the varnish has not yet cured, if moisture gets in between the finish, this can cause a milky bloom to appear and it can take a while for the trapped moisture to evaporate. Seal all new or bare wood by applying one coat of Clear Gloss Diamond Glaze Varnish to help reduce absorbency variations, which can cause differences in colour and sheen. Wood dyes may be used prior to applying Diamond Glaze Varnish. It is recommended that a water- based dye be used.

I am sorry to hear that your project did not turn out as expected, I suspect this may be due to the high oil content in dense hardwoods such as Iroko. Test a small clean area first, sand with 120 grit abrasive and dust off. Apply a test patch of Diamond Glaze - if the Glaze leaves uncoated spots, the surface is contaminated and needs to be stripped. If the film formed is unblemished, leave for 24 hours then test for adhesion by scraping with a coin. If the surface is sound, continue with preparation and priming as described above.

Surfaces should be protected from water, steam, spillages and hard stress, for example abrasion or polishing, for a minimum of 5 days after application. Do not apply Dulux Trade Diamond Glaze in temperatures of 10°C or lower or in areas of high humidity or condensation. Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1970s painted surfaces as they may contain harmful lead
