I haven’t actually used my George Foreman in a loooong time, but I’m told you can stick your mochi in there for 5-ish minutes.

This mochi can be made either by pounding rice (you’ve all seen that viral video of mochi pounding in Japan, right? One study found that in kantomochi rice 172 and BC3, amylopectin distribution varied and affected the hardness of mochi. All you have to do is to wet the surface of the mochi, put it on a microwavable dish, cover with plastic wrap, and heat it for about one minute (in 500W). In the early 1900s mochi was already being mass-produced and sold in Japan, but it was not yet what we know as kirimochi. Although less common today, the traditional process still exists in most rural areas, as well as in urban temples, shrines, and community spaces, especially in the days leading up to the new year.

The invention of these one-ingredient mochi waffles, also known as moffles, are credited to the Sanyei company in Japan, who trademarked their moffle maker in 2000.
