The Osprey Kite 46 is going to be a favorite amongst thru-hikers this year. Cons of the Osprey Renn 50 Why make us buy the rain cover separately when every hiker needs a rain cover!? Thankfully, those days are over and we can forgive Osprey for their shortcomings. I love how easy it is to get my bulky sleeping bag and tent inside the main compartment without a major fight. It’s the shape that makes the difference, rather than just the capacity. And if you like to separate your stuff out there’s a handy section at the bottom that you can clip together if you want to. (Leave it unclipped to have just one large compartment). You can make the usual adjustments around the hip belt, the shoulder and chest straps, and there are a number of compression straps too. The shoulder straps and hip belt on the Renn 65 are both very comfortably padded, with holes in the foam for breathability.

That said, it does weigh quite a bit more than the Renn 50, so some ultralight hikers would not even stop to consider choosing the Ariel 65 over the Renn 50.The Ariel 65 was built to do battle in the mountains. It can comfortably carry double the weight of the Renn, with a carry limit hovering around 60 pounds. The Osprey Renn series actually comes in two different sizes: The Osprey Renn 50 and the Osprey Renn 65. Durable, this baby has to last without bits falling off after a few hundred miles (it’s proved it’s capable of that!) Neither of these flaws is enough to affect my appreciation of the Renn 50 and what it can do. I do realize that this style has had a ton of thought put into the design.

The entire bag is made from a super durable, lightweight and weather resistant 600D polyester. This tough outer fabric is perfect for the Rook as it won't weigh you down when you're heading out for a multi-day trek in the mountains yet is designed to withstand years of regular use.
