About this deal

A well fertilised lawn will help you get the most from your weed killer. In spring apply fertiliser in April and weed kill end of May or early June. In autumn do your weed spraying 1 to 6 weeks after feeding. During the summer, apply your feed and then the weed killer once you see the grass perk up. As simple as that! I looked at the chemicals in Weedol and from my research, I believe it will be effective against 99% of the weeds most commonly found in UK lawns but I know from my past use that there are a few species of weeds that won’t respond to it (mostly non-broad-leaved weeds). You will only kill weeds when they are actively growing. This means commencing sometime in May and finishing sometime in late September or early October. Evergreen is more designed for keeping an already relatively weed-free lawn, free of new invaders. So use it as a method of weed control, not the cure to a problem.

One of my favourite times for complete lawn weed control is in late August or September whilst there is still some warmth around. I would recommend this if you just need the one application in the year. The reason for this is: Some of the 3 star reviewers stated that the product killed most but not all of the weeds. This highlights the fact that Weedol kills over 99% of weeds but not 100%, there are a few species that won’t respond to the product and may need to be manually pulled out or treated with different chemicals. This type of weedkiller stimulates the hormones in the weeds, causing the cells to grow fast. At first, it appeared that the weeds are getting bigger and taller, but after a few days of this accelerated growth, the cells could no longer sustain themselves, the cell walls then started to collapse, and the weeds started to wilt and die off. Glyphosate is the active ingredient which makes a weedkiller non-selective, meaning it will kill any (or most) green plants that it touches. Some in as little as 24 hours.Yes, an amateur weedkiller concentrate might not be as strong as a professional product and that is for reasons of safety. That said, all it means is that you need more concentrate to dilute into water than you would a professional product. For example, an amateur weed killer concentrate might take 1 part concentrate to 3 parts water to make the desired strength. Because Weedol doesn’t contain Glyphosate, it is safe to use on lawns. Instead, it’s active ingredients are;

Secondly, (and this is the reason many people mix it too weak) many users don’t get an accurate measurement of their lawn. They completely underestimate how big their lawn is and only use enough concentrate for 30 square meters when in fact their lawn is 50 square meters. Scotts Weedol (Verdone) - wait 2 months after sowing or turfing though I'd be inclined to give it 3 months Ordinarily, you should only apply a concentrated weed killer to your lawn once a year, either in the spring or in the autumn. When mowing prior to weed treatment don’t mow close. If you mow close and chop the leaves off the weeds there is nothing left to spray!Westland Resolva Lawn Weedkiller - wait 6 months after sowing or turfing if using the concentrate and 18 months if using the Ready to Use. Even though the weeds were still visible, they were crispy and showing no signs of life with no new offshoots etc. Only use in the growing season when growth is good normally 2 days after mowing and at least 3 days before the next cut. Ready to Use

I rarely use Evergreen 4-in-1 because as a qualified groundsman I’ve always fed my lawn, killed weeds and killed and removed moss as separate treatments. It’s just the way I prefer to do things. The manufacturer’s recommendations are that once dry the lawn is safe to use. This would take just a few hours in the warmer months. The definition of a weed is a plant that is growing in the wrong place! This means all plants can be called a weed at sometime. Weedol is a selective weedkiller, meaning that it targets a specific set of weeds and won’t kill grass and nearby plants will be safe provided the instructions are followed. They typically come as part of a ready to use lawn feed and weed type of product but rarely as a stand-alone weedkiller.

However, don’t expect them to die within 24 hours as other weedkillers claim. It can take a week or so to see results. However, this is due to the fact that it doesn’t contain Glyphosate. A considerable number of reviewers who left a 3-star rating liked the product but had issues with damaged or leaky bottles (mostly the ready-to-use variant). For complete weed control a concentrate will do as good a job as ‘ready to use’ and vice versa. Use them according to the kind of treatment required. Weedol (Verdone) and Resolva
