About this deal

I guess it only takes a pointy grain of sand to work its way in through the outer fabric to puncture the wafer-thin membrane.

I was deciding whether or not to put both of my socks back on when the thought hit me: “This is a perfect opportunity for a small-scale experiment. My speedcross drain and dry really quick if I go through water and I’ve never suffered with cold feet.In our minds, I’m sure we’re all thinking of the entrance series – how the hell will we get him through that lot?

Canvas dodgers and biminis are the hallmark of a cruising yacht, keeping the sun at bay and allowing the crew to "dodge" the worst of the weather. Merino is a natural alternative to many of the synthetic high-performance materials that plague the cycling industry. I've finally have got my pack weight down light enough that I feel comfortable making the switch to trail-runners, but I haven't quite come to grips with the reality of walking all day with wet shoes. I've done some very cold, wet, winter races, and none of my toes have fell off (yet), wearing nothing more than a standard pair of Inov8 or Bridgedale socks, perhaps a pair of merino Inov8 socks if it's exceptionally cold.Longevity is not great there was signs of wear after three or four uses but I use them so infrequently it doesn't really matter. I recently got turned on to the injini coolmax socks and prefer them when things are going to be wet.

They are also designed with a close fit, including elastic arch support, with the idea being that they won’t become too baggy when drenched with water. As with waterproof trousers, some waterproof socks are rated on their waterproofness – they follow the same HH scale, so the higher the number, the more waterproof they are. Good gaiters are brilliant for this type of walking of course but once you start bog trotting or going through water courses for a multi day then I'd for sure be looking at waterproof socks - if nothing else it stops your feet from disintegrating when you put them back in your boots. If you suffer from cold feet, get a pair of long warmbac neoprene wetsocks -just keep trying until you find a pair that fits, Sealskinz will get wet on the inside in a wet cave and then your feet will be cold.

Just be aware that they are a little thicker than normal socks so you my have to size up your shoes I was lucky and had room to spare !
