Northern Lights is set to debut in Leazes Park this year to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the city centre green space, and has already been billed as one of the top trails in the country. There will be 10 - 12 light attractions along a mile-long accessible route, as well as a Christmas village with food and drink stalls among the way.

The hugely popular 'Train of Lights’ display will also return. Run by Dartmouth Steam Railway and River Boat Company, the vintage carriages of the Train of Lights are decorated with thousands of sparkling lights, creating a magical atmosphere for train passengers as well as landside spectators watching at Goodrington and Broadsands Beaches. You can hop on the 40-minute journey that takes in the stunning English Riviera coastline travelling towards Churston Station and onwards to the Greenway tunnel, through an enchanted forest with colourful feature displays, illuminated animals and elves, and breath-taking night-time scenery.

'Raging inferno'

There's also a festive Christmas Shop at the castle and Fireside Stories with Father Christmas, which you can book as an extra. Another new addition to this year’s Bay of Lights is ‘Santa by the Sea’. Wrapped up warm in his seaside 'gingerbread' lit up hut, Santa will be ready to greet guests with warmth and merriment. Located at Pier Point Restaurant & Bar in Torquay, this bookable experience promises festive fun for the whole family. Santa will be spreading holiday cheer daily from December 16 - 23 between noon and 6pm. Every visit supports a noble cause, as all profits will be donated to Rowcroft Hospice.
