About this deal

As the name suggests, this is the ‘giant’ of the Milan family – the largest eraser of the collection. The eraser is made of soft synthetic rubber and it is suitable for removing strokes from graphite pencils on all kinds of surfaces. Because of its size (6.8 x 5.1 x 2.8 cm) we don’t recommend it for precision erasing. Staedtler Combi Mars Plastic Eraser White & Blue– (two sides – one for graphite and coloured pencils and the other for ink) (phthalate and latex free)

Set Squares are used to draw accurate angles. The most common set squares are 45 degrees and 60/30 degrees. When using set squares they should always be used along with a T-Square. The Set-square rest on the straight edge of the T-Square and this ensures that the angle is drawn straight and with accuracy. Diagram 4 – Set squares This type of rubber is the best choice for erasing highlights in charcoal or pastel because plastic and rubber erasers leave pieces that can smear the drawing when you rub them away, but a putty rubber collects the charcoal or pastel inside itself without leaving any crumbs to brush away.

I used Faber-Castell Polychromos Crimson thinking it would be a tough one to erase because it is oil and wax as well as red which is often a staining colour.

If you want to remove layers of pigment to lighten an area or to apply more layers of a different colour on top – a kneaded or putty eraser will do the job just remember to constantly clean it by kneading as you use it.Triangles are used to draw vertical lines and other lines at set angles. Rest the triangle on theT-square blade and slide it along the blade to the desired location. Draw the full length of thevertical line in one pass if possible. Hold the blades of the T-square and the triangle together toprevent movement when you are drawing, and hold the pencil point as close as possible to How it performed: Was better when rubbed than when pressed and lifted. Best on the light lines of graphite, not so well on the dark. Fine on press and lift for coloured pencil lightening. Great on removing the graphite under pigment liner pens without lightening the ink. Removed the graphite under the watercolour with only slight lightening of the paint, might be the winner for that task. For clean, smudge-free results, resist the urge to brush or blow off the debris left on your work after you’ve used an eraser – this can cause unwanted smudging and introduce moisture from your breath onto your work. Gently lift your paper and give it a gentle shake to clear it off – the extra effort is worth it.
