About this deal

Battery is better at six hours per charge but that’s still behind even some cheaper true wireless earbuds such as the JBL Live Pro 2 and the same as the Sony LinkBuds S. In total they’re capable of 30 hours with the charging case, which is fine. Charging here is taken care of by a Lightning cable and not USB-C, or you can use the slower Qi wireless charging for cable-free charging. Bowers & Wilkins has taken its sweet time to bring a true wireless in-ear design to market, but the PI7 are worth the wait. Most important of all is the way they sound, of course - and thanks to a hybrid system of balanced armature in conjunction with a 9.2mm dynamic driver in each earbud, they sound excellent. The soundstage they create is sizeable and well defined, the tonality from the top of the frequency range to the bottom is balanced and believable, and they retrieve as much detail as a scene-of-crime investigator. In absolute terms, they’re a match for the best-sounding true wireless in-ear headphones around. Pay attention to comments on how the earbuds fit. Some earbuds go into the ear canal, others rest on your earlobes, and others combine both scenarios. The shape of your ears will largely determine your comfort with a given set of headphones. Sound quality is highly impressive, too. The Fit Pro have a weightier bass response than their stablemates the Studio Buds and there’s less harshness in the treble frequencies. Like most Beats headphones, the Fit Pro play particularly nicely with Apple devices. They house the company’s H1 chip and this enables a range of useful features, including shared listening with other Beats users, hands-free Siri and full spatial audio support. What else? Well, their voice-control is good, their touch controls are effective and the charging case is as robust and compact as the earbuds themselves. But most of all, the sound of the GT220 is up there with the very best.

Most earbuds have some volume controls and controls for music functions like play, pause, previous, and next song. If the earbuds have a microphone built-in, you’ll also have buttons for answering and rejecting calls. Some of these buttons may double as more than one function. For instance, the “play” button may double as the “answer call” button, or the “decline call” may double as the “stop” or “pause” button. Wireless earbuds are one of those ideas that sounded like a dream at first: Pop a little headphone into each ear and listen to music or take calls untethered from everything. The first wireless buds were gigantic, died after a few hours, and had a bunch of other problems. Times have changed. There are now tons of new models that sound fabulous and work perfectly. After testing hundreds over the past four years, these are our favorite wireless earbuds, in a wide range of styles and prices. Design: When buying a new pair of wireless earbuds, it can be helpful to think about where you want to wear them. If you're going to use them on a run, for example, you may want a pair that offers the most secure fit and a high water resistance rating like all the models in our best sports headphones. We all know Bose how to make a great pair of wireless headphones and the QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds have to be considered its finest wireless earbuds to date. The Ultra actually replace the company's 2022 What Hi-Fi? Award winner – the Bose QuietComfort Earbuds II, so shop around and you might be able to find a big chunk of cash slashed off the older pair. It's an option worth considering.

Taking all that into account, the list you see before you is what we consider to be the best models at various price points.

Updated October 2023: We've added the latest AirPods Pro, Jabra Elite 8 Active, Sony WF-1000XM5, Beats Studio Buds +, Jlab JBuds Mini, Technics EAH-AZ80, Oneplus Buds Pro 2, and JBL Tour Pro.

Which Bluetooth earbuds have noise cancellation?

You’re on a tight budget: It’s easy to argue that the ANC and sound performance of the QCE II are well worth every penny, but these are expensive earbuds. Noise-cancelling is more important than sound quality: The WF-1000XM4s cancel noise well. But other true wireless buds (Bose QuietComfort Earbuds 2) do it better.

You have a few style options when finding a pair of true wireless earbuds. If you like the bud and stem look, you can find several true wireless earbuds similar to AirPods, where they have a small bud that sits in the ear and then a stem that hangs down and may include a microphone. If you like more subtle earbuds, you can use a smaller design. If stability is your top priority, and you don’t want to worry about your buds falling out of your ears, you may want to go with an over-the-ear design. Although the over-the-ear design is more familiar with in-ear headphones, you can also find earbuds in this design. These wireless buds aren't from what you'd consider one of the larger, heavy-hitting brands, but they are ridiculously affordable and they sound great for the money too! Any sound comparison between these cheap in-ears and class-leading products. But these JLab buds beat everything in their price range for sound. Our testing proved that vocals are relatively well handled through the mids, the bass is sensibly handled, and the soundstage is relatively expansive. The price of the Technics EAH-AZ80 is that of a premium product, for sure – but happily, so is the specification. There are some disappointments here, but overall these are a pair of buds that deliver excellent sound quality and a fantastic fit.

Our pick of the best wireless earbuds available for every budget

Sony's XM-series earbuds go from strength to strength with each new generation. As the latest flagship, the WF-1000XM5 wireless earbuds are smaller and lighter, yet they're equipped with some of the strongest features and performance we've ever seen from a pair of wireless earbuds. They have some of the most dynamic and engaging sound we've heard, and their noise-canceling performance easily matches that of the Bose QuietComfort Earbuds 2 or Apple AirPods Pro 2 Soundwise, these can’t deliver the crushing walls of bass that the Sony headphones on test here can achieve, but with the business parts designed by ex-Sennheiser headphone maestro Axel Grell, they’re excellent performers, delivering a pleasingly balanced listen. The noise-cancelling is equally precise, and the on-bud controls are pleasingly responsive. If ANC is a top priority, then the Bose QuietComfort Earbuds 2 are without question the best noise-cancelling earbudsoverall. The new flagship introduced several upgrades over the original such as adaptiveactive noise cancellation(ANC), Bluetooth 5.3, and sound calibration technology for improved sound quality. It's also worth noting the number of hours you get can vary depending on what other features you have enabled. Don't forget that wireless earbuds come with charging cases so they're kept topped up between outings. You’d prefer high-definition wireless sound quality: With support for just low-definition wireless codecs, the
