About this deal

A nice little knife to work with, I gave it a sharpen on my wet stones and its like a razor. It has a good feel to it and for the price it's good. The Ferrocerium itself is of good quality and when used with a properly sharp steel surface will throw many sparks. Out of the box the 90 degree spine of the OK4 works well with the FS. However, after the coating was “removed” from the spine, spark production was notably increased. I was easily able to ignite combustion with this matching pare. Competitive Offerings Learn more about the Outdoor Knife OK4 Japanese steel and a scandinavian grind for longlasting sharpness

It is a little short on the blade when compared to a lot of the knives favoured by members here but I rarely use anything more then 3-4" Oproti jiným křesadlům se jedná o tlustý a dlouhý kus oceli, který dlouho vydrží. (po odříznutí poutka použijete i druhou stranu) The Hultafors Outdoor Knife OK4 is a durable outdoor knife with friction grip suitable for tasks in the field. The hardwearing textile belt loop allows up to 80mm wide belts. The blade has a Scandi grind and is made from Japanese 3.0mm carbon knife steel that has been hardened to 58–60 HRC and has a rust protective electrophoretic deposition coating to withstand corrosion. The ground spine of the blade is designed for starting a fire with a fire starter. The GK is a great cutting tool for the money. If you are on a very constricted budget and need just one very strong, affordable fixed blade that won’t let you down, you won’t be sorry if you can get your hands on one of these. Past these two issues, the rest of the fit and finish is quite good. The blade coating was even and well applied. The printing and logos are all crisp and well laid out. The two types of handle plastic are mated well and have not frayed or come loose. Plus, the ribbed texturing on the handle is perfect. As the handle is the stand out feature on the OK4, I am pleased that it was not subject to the major flaw found on the blade. Hultafors Fire Steel FSBut Mora have competition. From Hultafors, also in Sweden. Hultafors makes all kind of tools and is part of an industrial group that also sells safety gear and workwear - overalls, bibs, equipment vests and so on - on which you’ll find the typical Swedish buttons that you can hang knives in plastic sheaths on. They also invented the folding carpenter’s rule a very long time ago. Yeah I get that it was a joke, but it also came across as an unfair and uninformed description of the OK4. Jaur I'm pretty sure he was joking but thanks for the additional video. I couldn't find any in English when I went looking.

For the above grab-and-go tasks I used my Mora HD (with a seriously reprofiled convex grind) for years. I now use the Hultafors GK instead. It does everything I used the Mora HD for, but does most of them them better. The GK has not gone really blunt on me yet, btw, nor has it suffered damage from things like unfortunately hitting an embedded nail in a former fence pole log I was debarking. The handle is made from super-durable PP plastic and fitted with a Santoprene friction grip. A long tang makes the knife very durable. I have been using it almost daily now for a bit over 3 months, so no box opening review here. Rather a 'long first impression'.Ke křesání se používá tupá strana nože, noži se nic nestane. (Na nožích OK1 a OK4 je potřeba obrousit nanovrstvu barvy na horní hraně) I'd be interested if they ever went on to make a 6" blade version to compete with the Mora Pathfinder, I'd asked Mora if they'd ever consider a 6" on the Pro Robust but they weren't interested, polite enough but really not interested, it's obviously to me now they were working on other models... Fit and finish is the clear weakness of the Hultafors OK4. There is a 1.5 inch gouge on the spine of this particular example reviewed here. This is not a flaw unique to this knife as it is seen on other OK4’s found online. After considerable testing, I feel confident that this is not a structural defect. However, it is a major and unsightly flaw that I am surprised made it past quality control. A second smaller issue is noticeable injection mold seams on the hard green plastic sections of the handle. The cutting edge has a scandi grind for superior sharpness and is easy to re-sharpen. A protective electrophoretic deposition coating (EPD) for best rust protection. this cheap piece of crap is not what I expected from Hultafors" - Funny, cheap knives is exactly what most people expect from Hultafors, and that they come with the functionality and quality of knives 10x their price. That's why people like them, same reason as Mora.

I'm really impressed with the feel and quality of this knife. Feels great in the hand and cuts well. For the price it's an absolute bargain. Comes with a nice stealth and belt loop. I've had this knife a year now and thought I'd write a review. It is a great little knife I have used it for many tasks from splitting wood to skinning rabbits. I use a whetstone to keep it sharp. Worth the money for a good little cheap knife. This blade is too short for any serious work" - Meaningless unless specifing what is meant by "serious work". But I'm gonna jump to conclusions and advice Rambo to get an axe or machete to complement his belt knife. The Hultafors GK has a main grind of 20 degrees included (10 per side) and a large secondary bevel - that I measured with an electronic angle tool at 28 degrees included or 14 per side. Sounds familiar? That secondary bevel has the same edge angle as the main grind/bevel of a Mora HD/Robust et al, but it has a far thinner shoulder behind it - the main grind at 20 degrees. So the blade as a whole cuts and slices noticeably better, and is still plenty tough enough.Zero Scandi grind shouldn't mean, no scandi at all, took an hour on a course diamond stone to get an apoex.
