The Fifth book in the series and along with The Sacrifice the fourth chronologically. It was released on 12th September, 2013. It follows three main plot lines with with a few chapters following other characters; The others had promised that the countryside would be safer than the city. They were wrong. He tells Maxie he likes her but is worried by her feelings for Arran. is the year of zombies, with Brad Pitt's World War Z and Nicholas Holt's Warm Bodies films hitting cinemas.
