About this deal

With World Book Day coming up next week, now seems like a good time to share this fun Gruffalo themed recipe - yummy Gruffalo crumble muffins! Whisk the eggs with the maple syrup, vanilla extract and vegetable oil (or gently melted coconut oil). Again, little ones can help here and can be bribed not to lick fingers by being given the chocolatey bowl at the end. A Gruffalo-themed recipe for adults and children to make together from Julia Donaldson's fun-packed children's cookery book Gruffalo Crumble and Other Recipes.

It's a great source of inspiration for fun food too, from roasted fox to owl ice cream, I've made lots of Gruffalo themed food over the years, including fun Gruffalo themed bento lunches, Gruffalo Pizzaand this fun Gruffalo inspired muffin tin meal I created for Organix. If using coconut oil, gently melt first, then place all the crumble ingredients in a bowl and rub together with your fingertips until you have sticky crumbs. It’s best to use cold butter for this recipe - warm butter can easily become a dough rather than the crumbs you need. Once cool, top each muffin with 2 circles cut from dried mango or apricot and add raisins to make Gruffalo eyes. I wasn’t up to actually making a crumble and ideally wanted to make something that just involved mixing lots of ingredients so my girls could be as involved as possible. This cute and easy Gruffalo Crumble Muffins recipe is the perfect way to celebrate World Book Day or for fun Gruffalo party food for kids!

The Gruffalo is a massive favourite in this house and has been since my 10 year old was a toddler - indeed all of Julia Donaldson's children's books have been a hit with both of my boys. We made gruffalo crumble using porridge oats and different coloured play dough for the eyes, poisonous wart and purple prickles.Because our treat is a Gruffalo ‘crumble’, there is no need to try and create a Gruffalo as the idea is that he is mashed up inside. If the thought of putting together a World Book Day costume fills you with dread, why not choose to mark the day in a different way. This little corner of the internet is where I share the trials and tribulations of raising twindividuals, family days out and preschool fun.
