About this deal

Sharpening dull axe edges requires stones with grit. And the grit ranges from 1000 to 3000. So, whetstones with grits ranging from 4000 to 8000 grits are used to polish the knife and sharpen the sharpness. Technique Two: Fiskars Sharpener Sharpening a Fiskars axe requires a few tools to make its blade sharpen. But the basic solution is to use a sharpener. Simply slide the blade into the right slot and roll it a few times to restore the blade’s optimal cutting bevel. This handy little woodland companion features optimum sharpening angles for both Fiskars axes and knives, as well as an easy-to-use mechanism. Any pull-through sharper may leave little wires, burs, or particles of steel clinging to the edge and the Fiskars is no exception. File with the single cut side. Axe files will often have a single cut and double cut side – the single cut (straight lines) will be smoother and remove less material per stroke. The double cut side will criss-cross and is for aggressive material removal.

Sharpening the surfaces of a Fiskars axe and getting a fine-grit Smith Diamond sharpener is a good option. The combination of bench stone, multiple layers of micron-sized monocrystalline diamonds, and a unique sharpening surface with an overlapping oval hole pattern make this sharpener up to the mark. However, with these axes, I know a lot of people don’t bother. Especially with the splitting axes – just keep swinging and sharpen as needed. 2. Maintaining the blade (bit) of your Fiskars Axe I have to admit I was surprised by how well this cheap little sharpener worked. It’s true you can get a razor-like edge with a sharpening stone, but getting good enough to achieve that takes a fair amount of practice. When you are examining the edge you should see the newly sharpened bevel as brighter steel. Make sure it is a constant depth/width. Any narrow or non-shiny areas should be sharpened more. WD-40 is a common solution, but gun oil, boiled linseed oil, and other solutions work great. I have a full article on every way I know to prevent rust on an axe. One method even includes bacon. The Fiskars sharpener is an incredibly versatile tool because it can be used to sharpen both an axe and a knife. In addition, the Fiskars knife and axe sharpener are extremely simple to use. It’s not a big deal, but there is a chance these metal bits can immediately cause damage or dulling again if they aren’t removed. All axes will dull with use, and rolled edges can be quite common with flat ground edges (like on Fiskars).

The sharpener has an optimised sharpening angle for Fiskars blades with an easy-to-use mechanism. It is compact in size for convenient portability. One of the best features of Fiskars axes is that you can basically store them anywhere. Shed, garage, the trunk of the car, and you won’t run into the same issues as a traditional axe. They can withstand temperature and humidity changes.

If you don’t have leather you can use denim, paper, or honestly even just drag it across a flat wood surface. The easiest way is to simply wipe down the head with WD-40 after using the axe. It will both clean away dirt and residue and provide a light oiling at the same time. You can also use the Fiskars axe sharpener, which is a simple ceramic pull-through sharpener. It can’t deliver as clean an edge as a stone, but I was quite surprised by how good an edge it can produce. It’s super fast and it’s really easy to use. So while I encourage people to learn to sharpen “properly”, sometimes it’s hard to beat a 60-second method with no learning curve.
