About this deal

Anandas’ gelatine-free marshmallows are different to others available on the market as they use agar and locust bean gum as gelling agents. As a result, their marshmallows are much softer with a slightly flakey yet pillowy texture. The Worlds Original & Only All-Inclusive Marshmallow Company - Vegan; 14 Allergy Free; Halal Certified & Kosher Suitable - Leaving Nobody Out Since 2013. Dandies’ vegan marshmallows are great for toasting. They crisp up as soon as the fire hits them, caramelising beautifully. One of the main ingredients used to make traditional marshmallows is gelatine. This is used to give marshmallows their spongey, chewy texture, but because gelatine is derived from animal bones, marshmallows that include it aren’t vegan. Step 12 - Turn your oven to 150° F. Once it reaches that temperature, turn it off and set your cubed marshmallows in the warm oven for about an hour to dry out a little.

Marshmallows have a very specific structure and while agar can make a good gelatin substitute in some cases, it would create something more like foamy jello in these recipes. Furthermore, the outer layer started to melt and drip under the heat so they didn’t go gooey in the centre.

Stir the agar agar mixtures constantly over medium-low heat, just hot enough to keep it slowly bubbling. However, many manufacturers are now replacing gelatine with plant-based ingredients such as carrageenan to make vegan marshmallows.

Step 6 - Add sugar and boil for another 3 minutes stirring constantly over medium-low heat. (Be careful not to cook it too hot or you will burn or caramelize the sugar). While they are best known for their epic vegan Round Up biscuits (a vegan take on Wagon Wheels), they also have a huge range of artisan vegan marshmallows in a delicious array of flavours. Note about agar agar - I use agar agar in many of my vegan cheese recipes as well. Some people, especially those in Europe, report that they need more than the recipe calls for to get the same jelling effect. If you find your marshmallows are not firm enough, it may be the brand of agar agar you are using. (Also, be sure to use powder and not flakes!) 🔪 Helpful tools Vanilla Extract - clear vanilla will give you a whiter marshmallow, but regular brown vanilla works great too. Step 3 - Add some vanilla extract and whip for 3 more minutes until it is white again and it forms very stiff peaks. Yummallo is a leading marshmallow brand, and offers several different variations of the squishy candy. There’s Fruit Mix, Spaghetti Marshmallows, Unicorn Poop, and even Spicy & Sweet. But, unfortunately, as of yet, it hasn’t brought out any vegan versions of these options. However, as of last year, it does offer two types of standard vegan marshmallows (one regular size and one tiny), which are made with carrageen. Both are available at Walmart.
