About this deal

The film was adapted into picture book form as Labyrinth: The Storybook, written by Louise Gikow with illustrations by Bruce McNally, [113] and Labyrinth: The Photo Album, written by Rebecca Grand with photographs taken by John Brown from the film set.

Sarah Williams is an eccentric, angsty teenager who can’t relate to her stepmother and resents her baby half-brother, Toby. In 2018, the two were compiled as Labyrinth: Shortcuts, which also included two new stories, [140] and another three-story collection was released as Labyrinth: Under the Spell. I ended up using the cover for the official Labyrinth RPG book (Sadly not yet released at the time of this blog post) as my chief reference, as the designers mimic’d Sarah’s red book for the cover. He is a rock star, and he is also a leather jacket guy–a classic ‘bad boy’–and he’s Heathcliff, and also a ballet dancer […] There are a lot of subtleties going on in there, but it was always this romantic figure I was after. She is credited in the film as Cheryl McFadden (her first name), as she usually is when being credited for choreography work.Sendak's Outside Over There and Where the Wild Things Are are shown briefly in Sarah's room at the start of the film, along with copies of Alice in Wonderland, The Wizard of Oz, and Grimms' Fairy Tales. Cats have an unnatural fondness for Adrianne (sometimes unrequited) and her pet peeve is people who say wallah instead of voilà.

Despite his Victorian language, Smith skips the most Victorian writing tic of all, the detailed description of the main characters’ physiognomy. The park seen at the start of the film is part of the West Wycombe Park estate in Buckinghamshire, England. In his afterword to the 20th anniversary edition of The Goblins of Labyrinth, Froud wrote that Jareth references "the romantic figures of Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights and a brooding Rochester from Jane Eyre" and The Scarlet Pimpernel.

Maybe not to the point of bedding the Goblin King, but certainly to take responsibility for her actions, win her brother back, and go home to do the rest of her growing up on her own terms. Labyrinth was first met with a mixed critical response upon its release, which contributed to a difficult period of Henson's career, according to his son Brian Henson. After Embassy was sold to Coca-Cola in 1985, its home video line was renamed Nelson Entertainment, and a VHS release was also made under this label (re-using the same Embassy box artwork). Project editor Stephen Christy described the graphic novel as a "very tragic story" featuring a teenaged Jareth and said that it does not feature Sarah or Toby.

It was shot from April to September 1985 on location in Upper Nyack, Piermont, and Haverstraw, New York, and at Elstree Studios and West Wycombe Park in the United Kingdom. If the players are able to get past the challenge or gain useful information they are rewarded with progress which allows them to advance further into the book. In April 2012, a remastered re-release of the film was screened at The Astor Theatre in Melbourne, Australia. The early script has Jareth enter Sarah's house in the guise of Robin Zakar, the author of a play she is due to perform in. Henson met David Bowie in the summer of 1983 to seek his involvement, as Bowie was in the US for his Serious Moonlight Tour at the time. I was very impressed with this book it followed the storyline of the movie only adding on to the already wonderful story resulting in a tasteful expansion of the Labyrinths story.
