About this deal

Although, I wish I had access to RoboCop’s dash ability outside of combat, as exploring the streets of Old Detroit to find and complete sidequests can be a little tedious due to RoboCop’s absurdly (yet movie-authentic) slow walking pace and running speeds.

RoboCop: Rogue City Review - IGN

The problem is exacerbated by an uncompromising checkpoint save system that can cost you large chunks of progress, especially in the later game. For now, it's back to Detroit PD for a debrief, where Rogue City starts making the case that it's more than just a shooter. Upcoming FPS RoboCop: Rogue City has shown off its first gameplay and revealed lead character Alex Murphy, with the full likeness of original actor Peter Weller. While I love the Downtown area, I was getting tired of it by the third revisit, and the game would benefit from a second hub area to explore in the latter half.

Unfortunately, it exists exclusively in dialogue options and cutscenes, with no ramifications in gameplay.

The best RoboCop: Rogue City deals on PS5, Xbox and PC

That’s what is most impressive about RoboCop: Rogue City: it’s not just a solid first-person shooter set in the RoboCop universe – developer Teyon absolutely nails the look and feel of its film inspiration in ways that nothing else has. Not to mention, this game does a great job of representing RoboCop in videogame form with its faithful art direction, sound design, and gameplay ideas. One way or the other, you'll put those Torch Heads out for good, and feel damned satisfied while doing so.The appeal to nostalgia is strong, and that can have a significant impact on how much mileage you get out of this. Blasting at goons as an unstoppable walking machine remains as extremely entertaining as it seemed on the big screen, thanks in part to an impressive commitment to capturing the look and feel of the original film. One memorable scene had me manning a podium at the police office, listening to a litany of citizen complaints.

RoboCop: Rogue City Xbox review — Imperfect but enjoyable

The player also starts out with several abilities, including night vision and a flashbang shockwave. You can pick up and use guns dropped by enemies, like shotguns and assault rifles, though their ammo is limited (while Auto 9’s is not).As you delve into iconic locations and encounter familiar faces from the world of RoboCop, you’ll be delighted to know that Peter Weller, the original actor, lends his voice to the cybercop once more. Although Robocop: Rogue City doesn’t release for another four weeks, you can get a feel for the game now by downloading the free demo here.

RoboCop: Rogue City review - double-A throwback too faithful

Sometimes it’s purely aesthetic, as monitors explode, papers scatter, and shattered cement rains down from damaged structures. Most importantly, it's a fun way to spend time in a beloved fictional universe that doesn’t overstay its welcome. Exploding the groin of a baddie is a silly bit of over-the-top violence on its surface, but it’s so much more entertaining if you know that it’s pulled directly from the film.Low-life crooks and gangs of all kinds have been causing chaos, destruction, and mass murder on a scale never seen before. It makes for a unique-feeling shooter - a game that can often feel very basic, tired, repetitive and old-hat, chiefly because it is all of these things - 100%. Robocop: Rogue City is due out on November 2, but you can download and play its free demo on Steam before its launch day.
